The Empty Room?

Recommended Posts

Matt,

Glad you asked this question, and sorry for my delay in responding! :) The answer is simple: There are no 'busy' hours. What we've tried to do over the past few months is deal with people on a one-to-one basis in conjunction with the LoveTalk message board. We find that it provides for a more intimate, in-depth approach to working through a particular individual's issues or needs. We ask our guests to post messages describing the assistance they are searching for on the LoveTalk so that others may comment and provide their insight. Hosts and others who happen to be in the chat room at overlapping intervals can then discuss with the posted materials in front of them and easily accessible.

What we find, more often than we'd like, is that our audience is in search of a crowded chat room and upon finding one or two people currently online, is dissuaded from remaining online to converse and goes in search of a more active resource. That, of course, does not give us enough time to deal with the issues as we'd like. What we have seen is a shift in our targeted audience. When the #LoveShack was first founded, our only resource was the IRC "channel," or chat room. From there we began work on LoveShack.org, a site to compliment and provide additional resources to the users who would find us on IRC. Since then, however, the popularity of our web site has grown significantly over that of the IRC channel as more and more of the original hosts have lost the ability to dedicate as much time towards chating. Therefore, we welcomed this change as a chance to reach our guests in a manner that would be the least time-consuming -- the LoveTalk. We're aware of the problem and currently looking for people who would be willing to remain online in our channels as hosts. Our suggestion would be to frequent the DALnet branch of our network (#LoveShack on irc.dal.net) and check in there. We will be primarily focusing our hosting resources on that network, as it is presently the largest and most diverse available. Over the next few weeks, we will be continuing to modify our site to suit the needs of our guests more effectively, and if you, or anyone else has any additional comments or complaints or suggestions about what can be found here, we certainly welcome them! :) If you'd like to chat at a certain time or regarding a certain topic, you are free to e-mail any of the hosts in order to schedule a chat or communicate directly via that fashion. I hope this helps! :)

Yours,

LoveAngel

Hi, I've dropped into the IRC chat room on something like a dozen consecutive occasions, only to find it empty. Are there any particular 'busy' hours, and if so when are they?
