DannyMason
My life is so screwed up that I think I need professional help again. I've got three main problems that I'd like to "see someone" about: 1.) I have a long history of crippling social anxiety. My problems are pretty mild now, but they were so severe in the past and lasted so long that today I find myself with literally no meaningful interpersonal relationships at all. I think I need professional help trying to reintegrate with society. 2.) I have compulsive internet use issues. For a variety of reasons the internet has been a major crutch for my emotional issues and isolation. I've tried intermittently for years to get my internet usage under control, but I struggle since the internet is so vital for everyday life and my college education. I need some kind help here. 3.) I have major issues focusing and I also procrastinate to the point of absurdity, both of which combine to hinder my ability to do my schoolwork even when I otherwise understand the material. This may be related to my unmanaged ADD, but having tried for years to get this behavior under control on my own I think it's time to get some outside assistance. So those are my issues, but the thing is that I don't really know what my options are as far as help goes or how to get it. I have had professional help in the past but I don't consider it to have been particularly rewarding. I had therapy at a local mental health clinic that was very impersonal, bureaucratic, and definitely seemed to be concerned with its own profits over my welfare. My therapist spent much of our sessions on instant messenger and our sessions always seemed to end very early. I didn't get much out of it. Does anyone here know what kind of options might be available to me or if there are good resources I might be able to use to find out myself? Anyone go through similar experiences in the mental healthcare system? I live with my dad, but given that my income's fairly low, could I qualify for financial assistance in some way? Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.
SpiralOut
You mentioned your college education. Are you still in school right now? Are there any health services available to you there, or at least a place on campus that might provide you with local resources?
