Why I don't believe in God

I think that a belief in god can convince people of some pretty silly things, especially when the subject of embryos is brought up.

Religious people are capable of making ethical decisions independent of dogma.

It's upsetting that you have to debase other people's opinions in order to qualify your own.

I did not say that they couldn't.

You don't know what you're talking about there, so I won't entertain you again. A lot of what you have offered as factual information simply is not, and despite this you insist that your word is solid. I can't say I approve of that.

Dyermaker: You appear to return the favor to a lot of people, so it seems. I can understand how some members might see that you are attacking them, even if you may do it discreetly enough.

I do not believe in a god because, to me, it does not make any sense to believe in a god. I think that religion is too sensitive a subject, and I have never witnessed a single conversation relating to religion that did not border on hostility.

I also do not understand why people who believe in god are so hostile toward people who actively deny one. If people of faith can profess, then it should be acceptable for atheists to protest, with the theists refraining from insulting others.

Your implication is clear.

People whose opinions on embryos differ from yours are doing so out of religious conviction and not any form of suitable intellectualism.

I don't believe I'm hostile towards atheism.

Let them profess.

Often times, atheists are twice as vigilant in professing the lack of a God. They see religion connected with a lack of intelligence, and so they are convinced their atheism qualifies them as more intelligent--to the point where they believe the idea of theism isn't even worth discussing.

As a religion major, debating the existence of God is pointless. However, if you want to discuss different religions in the world I'm all for it! :)

Debating the existence of God really is pointless. Nobody that is alive knows If there is a God or not. They Just choose to believe in one. It is only after death that there is a possibility that we will know if there is a God or not, and even if there is one, we may still never know because he or she (or it) may choose not to reveal himself herself (or itself) to us.

What we on Earth have attempted to do was create a variety of belief sturctures in support of the existence of a God. We give this God qualities, a personality, and some kind of super power that we are incapable of acheiving. So really all we have done is created a variety of clubs that have self-contradictory rules and hold themselves high in regard of having the "right" belief of a God.

It's not that I do or don't believe: It's just that I really don't care. If God exists, then he or she (or it) will continue acting however he or she (or it) feels regardless of my wishes. If not, then things go about as normal where humans have to depend on other humans and not some outside force that may not even exist. Besides, if there is a God, then I don't think that any of the religions have gotten it right yet. There are just too many human qualities to religion to pass off as being divine and correct.
