in most cases you're right but not in all. i was stupid and felt bad since i was the one who asked for the divorce. he kept the house (i couldn't afford it on my salary), he kept the better car, i left almost all the furniture behind, took more than my share of the debt and we share custody with the kids 50/50 and because of that i settled for less than the recommended child support.

so yes, while the more typical pattern is that guys get scre*ed in the process, in my case, i did!!!

honestly, nobody should get the better end of the deal. if marriage is supposed to be a 50/50 arrangement then the divorce should be too. when people start really trying to scr*w the other spouse that's when the kids get hurt.

so although both parties need to protect themselves people should work for equity and what's fair, not how to mess up the other person so badly that they'll never recover financially. that's where i am right now. we went through mediation and one of the bad things about that is that it "favors" the stronger party.
