Vegetarian here- whoop whoop!

Yes, of course it doesn't, but likely, if diet is not controlled, that you will look like your family eventually.

Also, being a vegetarian does not guarantee that you will control your weight. Some people have this terrible thinking that as long as I eat "vegetarian" foods that I must be eating healthy. Not necessarily true. If one is gorging themselves with processed crap all the type, too much carbs/starch and sugars, then essentially, that is plainly a "meat-less" diet and not that much healthier.

Ice cream is vegetarian (but not vegan). Peanut butter is vegetarian and vegan but don't eat a whole jar!

I don't think many people realise that being eating healthily as a vegetarian is actually a lot of hard work. I know so many vegetarians who eat nothing but cheese and wonder why they can't control their weight. I also knew this vegan guy who ate nothing but french fries or bread and wondered why he was tired all the time. I never once saw him eat any actual vegetables.

Meat dosent make you fat thou.

Processed cr*p does but that can be vegetarian or non-vegetarian.

Meats good for you in moderation, everything in moderation

This argument goes back to at least Cain and Abel.

The fallacy is in thinking there is one single diet that is optimal for every human being on the planet. Some people thrive on meat, some people thrive on eating starches. Relying on anyone else to tell you what to eat is stupid. Try different things and see what works best for you.

I don't think this argument goes back to Cain and Abel, frankly. And Cain and Abel didn't have to deal with chemicalized, processed, artificial foods like we do now. And oh, the benefit of medical, scientific knowledge that sheds an enormous amount of light on what and how we eat and how it affects us.

Cain and Abel both ate a traditional diet, btw. One was a sheep herder, the other a grain famer, but both were traditional Semitic men, right?

Yes, that was my point. This debate goes back at least to the conflicts between farmers and herders.

I'm not aware of anyone (besides maybe the US govt) that advocates eating processed foods and artificial ingredients. The debate seems to be between "Eat meat and vegetables" and "Eat grains and vegetables".

BTW, I have a question about this "raw diet" thing: How can you get enough calories only eating raw foods? I guess you could eat lots and lots of nuts, but that would be a super high-fat diet, right?

some fats are good for you.

Almonds, brazil nuts and peanuts are full of oils - but they're hugely beneficial.

The bye-word is 'Moderation.

I read an article somewhere by a top UK nutritionist who also practises Ayurvedic medicine who stated that if people were really pushed to exist on three food substances, and three only, he would recommend Apples, Almonds and olives.

These 3 foods contain all the necessary nutrients for a complete and balanced diet.

I forget what quantities /day, though!!

Oh and water.

And plenty of it....

And she says she has her skincare line to thank, not her diet.

Good thing they are plentiful in Greece and Spain.

Google Annette Larkins and Mimi Kirk on youtube. Not sure if both are vegans but they are in their 70s as well and look and move like someone much younger. I really need to become more disciplined with my eating.

This is making me want steak and eggs with butter, lots of butter.

Beat me to it.

I did, however, grow the green beans and onions that were part of our dinner last night.

The problem with this line of thinking is that genetically gifted people are going to look good no matter what. It might very well be that this supermodel looks good in spite of eating vegan, not because of it.

Genetically gifted, phooey. Genetics is only half of the equation. Lifestyle is more important. It certainly can't hurt to do what they do. What if their lifestyle works for you, too? Of course, if you are lazy... Sort of like people who say to me, "You are so lucky that you're thin." Luck has nothing to do with it.

It might work, it might not. Genetics determines virtually all of how you look. You can optimize yourself, but you can't change your face or basic body structure.

My point is that you can't know what works for you without trying different things. Some people might do okay as vegans, some are going to get very sick. There is no one-size-fits-all secret answer to life. You have to do what is best for you.

I agree that it still takes effort. I think anyone can be fit. But I have to admit, anything works for me. The 6 small meals high protein diet, the Atkins diet, the one big meal a day diet and whatever lifting/workout routine people can pull out of their asses. I looked like I lifted weights before I lifted weights. I have to seriously overeat and be sedentary to get fat and then I look like a fat guy that lifts and still has a lot of tone all over....except for the belly.

I took what Easyheart said as just being....that supermodel chick you linked could have done a completely high protein (low/reasonable calories) meat and potatoes diet and gotten the same results she has with a vegan/vegetarian diet.
