Having bad Deja Vu lately..

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure exactly when it started. Maybe a little over 2 months ago, but lately after something happens I get this weird feeling where I think to myself "I knew that was going to happen" or "I've seen that happen before" It makes me feel like I'm going crazy because there's no way that I could have but I still get it from time to time. I don't know what causes it. I do the same crap basically all the time so could it be me recalling a similar situation from the past? It just feels so strange.

Anyone else deal with this? or ever dealt with something like this?

The scientific idea behind it is that your brain draws upon a memory (something already seen) before it has completed analyzing/constructing a new situation.

The spiritual view would be that it may be due to a premonition, recalling something from a past life, or from a dream.

Everyone has Déjà vu from time to time, some more than others. It used to happen to me quite often. I had often had dreams, growing up, of things that were soon to happen in the coming days.

It makes me feel like I'm going crazy. Like just today I was saying to myself "I think this is going to happen" then I get home from work and son of a b*tch! it happened! I also feel like I know bad things are going to happen before they do, so I'm afraid and anticipate when they happen. If/When they do I'll be saying "I knew that was going to happen" or "I saw that happen before"

It's all mental right. I don't actually know any of this crap is going to happen? ...right? :lmao: It just feels so weird!

Well, I wouldn't necessarily call that déjà vu. Déjà vu means "already seen". So say, for instance, you book a vacation to somewhere you have never been before and when you get there, it seems eerily familiar. I think what you are experiencing (and being that I am a spiritual person, this is from a spiritual standpoint) is some sort of clear-seeing or clairvoyance. You should explore it further. There are many resources online. As I said, such things happen to all of us - some more than others. I've had many similar experiences of my own, especially foresight from my dreams.

Most recently, my sister (a vegetarian) had told me that she had a sudden craving for fried chicken that came out of nowhere. That very same day, when she got her mail, the Bon Appetite (a culinary magazine that she gets) had a picture of fried chicken on the cover. She called me right away to tell me, because she knows about the kinds of things that have happened to me over the years.

Don't worry, you aren't going crazy. :)

Maybe I'm dealing with a little of both. Most of the time I deal with these feelings it's that I felt like I've done/seen it before. but there are those weird situations like the one you described with your sister that get me too. (which I guess happen to everyone) Is there anything wrong with me or any way to deal with them or do they just come and go for everyone?

thanks :lmao:

Perhaps it is a bit of both.

No, there's nothing wrong with you. Just roll with it. Do research on the topics we discussed here, so as to gain better understanding. :)

It seems like clairvoyance or clear-seeing is what I'm having. I was seeing that people want to become clairvoyant. I'm actually dreading this though if it's what I have. It's eerie and when I think of bad things happening in the future I feel like they are ACTUALLY going to happen. Like just earlier I was watching a baseball game and I thought "This guy is going to hit a home run" and the NEXT PITCH he hits a bomb. My mouth was wide open and I couldn't believe it. Of course it could just be a huge coincidence but it still freaked me the f*ck out! especially that I've been thinking about this for the past few days, it makes me feel like it has something to do with it.

Rolling with it is all I can do I guess. I just hope it goes away eventually.

Does this have anything to do with your GF and things she may be doing now that you are remembering she did pre breakup? Just wondering

Well she's doing some things that she did pre breakup because she is still the same person at her core. but the moments I have been having rarely ever have to do with her. They've happened as I was talking to her and then I look up and see something and think "I've seen that before". (when I haven't)

Makes me consider the possibility that everything happening now has happened an infinite number of times before, and will continue to

Eternal return - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I've had this sort of feeling.. And it was such a scary, lonely feeling.. Never had it before until I tried mary jane (which I quickly realized I hate) It was like knowing that you've done this countless times and you're not in control of what's happening or going to happen.. You sort of melt into the fabric of space and truly feel one with everything..

As if your body is a cart on a rail that you can't get off of or change the direction of and you're trapped inside just watching everything play out, yet you already know what's going to happen before and AS it's happening.. Perhaps there was more than just mary jane involved, but I wouldn't know even to this day. I was told that I was in some sort of mobile catatonic state for several hours.. They couldn't "reach" me..

I don't know how else to describe this. It was a weird state to be in, and I start to feel it from time to time, but I can always shake those feelings off with a bit of focus.. I ramble.

Please feel free to ramble. It's what this forum is for. I've done a lot of rambling in my time here.

So it's nice to know I'm not the only one dealing with something like this. It's funny because I used to read about stuff like this and think people were crazy but now I feel like I'm dealing with it myself. Like I don't know what exactly that I know is going to happen, but just before and as it happens I get this weird feeling of "oh. I knew that was going to happen/I've seen this before". There are some thoughts in my head (some of them bad) and I worry that these things I'm thinking about will actually happen too.

How do you just shake it off now?

I get deja vu about twice a year. I feel I've been in the exact situation (people, vibe, circumstances) and sense that something really good is going to happen right then or know the outcome. I'm always wrong. Now I just ignore my deja vus.

It's worst when I'm alone.. You know what I mean? I'm actually finding it hard to explain.. When there's nothing around you but yourself and static objects or plants or whatever, it's like there's nothing to snap you out of your deja-vu catatonic state..

I can usually just sort of shake my body a bit to get rid of the weird feelings of being an observer/occupant of my body and remind myself that this particular moment has never occurred before in this exact same way, and I don't truly sincerely remember this, it's just an odd neurological(?) phenomenon.. When it first happened, I'd planned on writing something down on a piece of paper.

If I'd ever written those words down again, I'd know that I'd truly experienced the same life before. It sounds insane, but when you actually experience this sort of mind-f**k, regardless of how it transpired, it messes with you.. When other people are around you, it changes the dynamic of things completely. It removes the crazy feeling that everything is a part of you, that you're the only true being in existence, and the loneliness disappears. I also feel that I've spent a lot of time alone and have had a very predictable last year or so.. That probably exacerbated these odd feelings..

Honestly, I never have negative thoughts or anything.. I simply feel fear that I'm getting lost in some sort of catatonic "god-head" state where I'm getting a glimpse into eternity or something crazy like that.. lol

I definitely feel it more when I'm alone in my room, watching TV and on the computer. When I'm around other people or doing other stuff I don't have them probably because my mind isn't in the same place as it is when I'm alone. It wanders less and is more concerned about what is going on right now.

Do you think it can get worse? Is it just something that comes and goes?

I don't believe it's really a condition. I believe that I smoked something that messed with my head, and I had "flash backs" periodically over the course of several months.. Rarely anything now. I wouldn't say that it'll get worse, if you're experience anything similar to what I have.. It may go away for good soon enough. Maybe it's just a weird thing.. Maybe stress has caused it?

Well, my Buddhist view is that we can certainly get glimpses... either into a past life (i.e. the feeling of having been somewhere or interacted with someone before), as we have lived countless lives. Premonitions that come in our thoughts or dreams are moments of clear-seeing. My Buddhist teacher told me that these things happen to people who had accomplished some semblance of a controlled mind in a past life, and carried it with you. It is said that because Buddha was an enlightened being, he saw everything clearly (past, present and future).

Scientifically, there is probably some parallel to the fact that particles (photons, I think) exist outside of time and can also exist in more than one place, simultaneously. I don't think I'm qualified to delve any deeper here, but it fascinates me, nonetheless. :)

One of the strangest things that has ever "happened to" me, and my sister was there to bear witness, was one night when we were young girls, we were up on a summer evening playing video games in my sister's room, when suddenly I put down the controller. I had a horrible feeling that I couldn't shake. I began to cry and told my sister that something terrible was about to happen. She went and told our parents that I was upset about something... a few minutes later, the phone rang and our neighbor informed us that some guy, probably high as a kite, was up in our woods, stumbling around. (We lived in a very rural, remote area, so it was indeed strange). My dad and neighbor ran up into the woods to find the guy, and upon doing so, he swallowed the rest of the cocaine he had on him. He died (of an O/D) on our lawn as the paramedics arrived, and I stood at the window, crying.

This was one of many strange happenings for me.

That is strange.. damn. Here I was thinking me calling a baseball player hitting a home run was strange. (just because I felt so convinced he would, and he did) but that is much more eerie. Have you dealt with anything strange recently relating to this?

I'm sure it will pass. Could it have anything to do with me doing similar crap all the time? It's the summer now and my routine doesn't consist of much but I do the same things every day basically. Maybe me feeling like I've done/seen things before is me recalling a similar situation in the past? I remember reading somewhere that when I feel this way, it's my brain processing information in a different place than normal so I process it as a memory instead of it going on right now. (not sure where I read that, and I have no idea if it's true )

It was much stronger when I was younger. As I've gotten older, it's just little trivial things that come in dreams, or saying something my fiancé is thinking, or thinking something directly before my little boy says it out loud. I think these things happen to all of us. The last few times more extraordinary things happened:

*A (casual) ex from a long, long time ago popped into my head. I hadn't seen or heard from/of him in the longest time (a decade, maybe?). As I drove home from work that day, I looked in my rear view mirror and who is driving the car behind me? That same ex. He had very distinct features, and I was certain it was him. That very same week, I ended up with a nail in my tire and had to take it to a tire shop outside of town. I walked in, and who is standing behind the counter? This ex of mine. He recognized me, we exchanged greetings, and he offered me his employee discount for my new tire. ;)

*I had a dream one night about Canada. I had never been there, nor did I have any reason to dream of it. In the dream, I was online researching Canada, and my boss was telling me I should visit there. The Canadian Maple leaf was all over the place (in the dream). The next day, my co-worker walked in wearing a "Canada" sweatshirt with a maple leaf on it from a prior trip she had been on (she later told me). I gasped out loud. lol

There's more, but I'm interested to hear the specifics from others who have experienced these kinds of experiences. Oh, and Screaming, I had a similar experience with mj. I felt like I had gone into a dimension void of time. That's the only way I can explain it. It scared the hell out of me. I was 19 then, I think, and that was the end of my "experimenting" days.

It's those kinds of things that happen to me too. I can't remember exactly when, but I've had situations like the one you described where I'm thinking about something/someone and they show up later that day.

I'm still having the feelings that I've "done all of this before". Had it earlier today and it passed. It sucks because I'm really convinced I have even though I know I haven't. Feels weird man.

I was busy over the weekend and didn't have many (if at all) moments of "I've done/seen this before". During the week I'm not super busy, so we'll see if me having more time to myself causes me to have those moments.

Just posting a small update on this situation. I was having feelings that something bad was going to happen, and I feel like it's going to happen soon. Last night when I went to bed I had this strange feeling in my gut that something bad was going to happen to me. It's funny because the whole week I was doing fine. Rarely ever having those situations of "I did this before/seen this/knew this was going to happen"

Oh well.
