just moved to new city.how do you start getting to know people?

Long story short, I moved to a city in the northeast a few weeks ago after I broke up with my gf. I'm not looking for anything serious right now and am trying to focus on myself and making new friends..but that's the problem-making new friends. My co-workers are nice, but not my type of crowd-i.e, have families, are older, just not my type of people.

 

So what would you do to meet people in a new foreign city?
