Anything by 112 or boys to men or jagged edge.

Eric benet , cold play, maroon 5, matchbox 20, carlos santana, mary J, prince...

Those were some good choices Pap.

I have a question to go along with this thread. Has anybody noticed that when theyre depressed, be it from a woman/guy or whatever, that you sometimes pick songs that make you even more depressed to kind of fuel the mood? Ive noticed I do that sometimes. Its almost like I want to wallow in the depression...although, Im a recovering alcoholic who also has issues with clinical depression, so maybe Im a little different in that aspect :p .

lol! Henry Rollins (another favourite of mine) has a great spoken word piece about depression when you go through a breakup and he says that we all secretly like to wallow in it. Your friends may come round and try to cheer you up and you're all "No, i don't wanna come out... just leave me here..." wallowing in self-righteous depression that is just disgusting! I think it is one of life's guilty pleasures!

I have a few songs that I love that I can't listen to anymore. The song Nothing Else Matters was our song. Love it, but can't get myself to listen to it. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I love that movie, but I saw it in the movies with my ex and therefore get sad. ( I know I know)

It is very strange there is kind of a new song called My Boo by Usher, well my ex called me his Boo all the time. The song goes on about how they haven't seen eachother in a while but they still can't get over it. Very Strange, but someone comforting.

The song that has helped me has been a song called Ashes not sure who it is by. But the words describes what happened in my relationship. And my ex told me he burned all my stuff, which is also in the song.

I have seen a post on here about the movie Swingers, that has helped me alot, also 40 days and 40 nights.

Ok guys. Feeling a little uncomfortable with this mutual male appreciation. ;)

Swingers is on my list too. AVOID COLD PLAY AT ALL COSTS. I had to hide the cd for the last 4 months.

And of course avoided any movie with the word love in its title. Wait a minute, there's a lot of films I have to avoid so here's music.

poems - tricky

With or Without you - U2

break my stride - Matthew Wilder (yes, you read it right)

Night Porter - Japan (the eternal good bye song)

I used to love him - lauren hill

everything is everything - lauren hill

ok, anything from the miseducation cd

white flag - dido

another day - this mortal coil

and i avoid portishead like the plague.

Just Visiting

The one movie that spoke to me through my break-up last year was "Something About You" by Ashley Judd and Hugh Jackman. Some of the movie dialogue I found comforting during that time.

I just found lately that Modest Mouse is good medicine music.

Stay away from any Pink Floyd or Bjork, although their music means a lot to me.

Also stay away from any David Lynch Movies like Mullholland Drive and Blue Velvet...although again Im a big fan of his movies.

Movies like Amelie and Eternal Shunshine of the Spotless Mind will make you feel better but will give you the urge to run away somewhere where nobody knows you to meet new love.

The main problem with sadness or despair is that they sap your strength. In the last fifteen months I've tried, where possible, to channel my own sadness into anger. Anger is a much more useful emotion: it gets your heart rate going, stirs feelings of defiance and righteous indignation, and can serve as a motivator. And there are so many useful, productive ways to channel that anger in socially acceptable ways -- you can take it out at the gym, play violent video games, etc.

Accordingly, my anger therapy has usually involved loud songs like the following:

Guns N' Roses - You Could Be Mine

Guns N' Roses - Don't Damn Me

Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name

Metallica - Enter Sandman

U2 - The Fly

Bon Jovi - You Give Love a Bad Name

Motley Crue - Kickstart my Heart

Chris Cornell's "Sweet Sunshowers" reduces me to a puddle of tears everytime.

Annie Lennox "Why" makes me think.

Creeds "My Sacrifice" picks me right up again.

I have them, along with other favorites, all on the same c.d. that way they counter act each other. Kind of hard to stay sad when "Smoke on the Water" comes on.
