Can women tell when a man is depressed?

Recommended Posts

Ladies, I must know, if a man is depressed but he acts like he isn't, does it still show through? does it make him less attractive and repel you?

If it does, how would a man go about removing that repulsion?

I never really thought about that. I guess it would depend what sort of signs you give off. aggression or being too mopy might annoy people but you say ou hide your depression. I don't think it would repel someone who knew you unless they are a selfish sort of person without compassion. Unfortunatly that said 90% I have met are selfish and rarely care what others feel. Most also get mad if theyhave to deal with others being upset. But I have met a lot of jerks so I don't know maybe that's just my experience. Laughter and doing fun things tgether do tend to make people bond and as I think of it now someone always being down around you might make you sad and want to go away from them but again it depends how it comes out and how you know the person I think.

I think some people can tell, I try to hide it well when I'm depressed but apparently there's no hiding it in my eyes as much a I try to hide it with a smile, I'm not sure it it's unattractive to most people, I've seen people who are clearly depressed but it never killed the attraction.

I dunno. The only time I let my proverbial guard down is when I am certain that I'm alone. though a few of the last girls I've been involved with have said things like "why are you so sad?" even after we have just been laughing our asses off at something.

I feel most women would be sympathetic.....i have had men break down and cry with me......i dont feel repelled...i have suffered depression...so I knwo what it feels like

PEOPLE suffering from depression is not repelling for me anyway...and most women have a nurturing instinct that kicks in when others are in pain...be it emotional or physical,,,men tend to suck it up and not want to show vulnerability......i dont think they should have to "suck it up" and fall apart alone...its isnt a weakness for men to admit they have rough days where they feel overwhelmed

its a strength .......deb

There is that stigma though that males have to stand strong in the face of adversity. it's difficult to shake what society expects of us and admit we have weaknesses.

true...men have been conditioned into having to cope by themselves.....and its good to have that calm strength...its also good to admit when you dont feel that way...society should embrace that...and i think well here in australia....politicians have shown their human side and broken down in public....they have been embraced i feel, for showing their humanity...men are not robots nor are they infallible......deb
