I don't want to go there but...

It sounds like he's flirty with you, even if he's not pursuing an affair at this point Who knows, since you are developing feelings, he may be too. He probably is, even if he's not conscious of it. IMHO its not normal to say "I'd rather talk to you than any other co-worker". That's called FLIRTING.

If he respects your work, that might cause him to develop feelings. Men like women who are smart and capable and can give them a run for their money in the smarts department...so its better you don't say anything but just cut the conversations short, don't be so engaging, don't contribute as much to the discussions. Be busy, be occupied with work...make friends with some female coworkers and talk to them more. He will back off, which will make it easier for you too.

And to the poster who accused OP of trying to have an affair with him..are we reading the same thread? She is saying she is developing feelings and perhaps he is too, and how she can nip it all in the bud. Sheesh.

I too assume this. Not sure.

Right thing to do. Be prepared he'd look a bit cross with you, which you don't like to happen.

I wish he's smart enough to get the message knowing you as a friend and not ask you why.

Yes, it's a pity that some posters consider as the OP and MM are planning an affair.
