Gistelle
At the age of 12 I was just a 5'2 tall girl and two years later I was at 5'4. I stayed there till the following year. Right now I'm already at 5'8. I mean that's a lot of difference. Not only that but I'm now wearing size 11 shoes (I had size 9). I went to the doctor and was told my growth plates are still open and I would be done at around age 20. Why? It seems as I were growing an inch every year. I've heard of guys having these type of big growths but I'm a girl. Or does this happens to girls too? After ages 17-18?? This recent growth was only a few weeks ago. I want to stop. I'm happy with my height now. Is something wrong with me?
Author Gistelle
Another thing it seems like I've started developing so late. I didn't get my period till about 6 months past age 16. I thought most girls were already done at ages 15-18 (not in my case, this is where I started growing again)? This growth was about two months after turning 18, after my HS graduation. How often does this happens in girls? Edited June 23, 2013 by Gistelle
Ripnet
Girls tend to develope later than boys. So girls usually catch up later on life. There's nothing wrong with you, relax. If you're taller than most boys in your class don't fuss over it. As long you like shorter guys it shouldn't be a problem.

I thought it was the other way around, girls developing early and guys finally catching up or growing later on. I'm taller than many girls in my class.
2sure
I grew until I was 21. I'm not tall. My daughter is 17 and 5'10 , looks like she will go 6'.
HokeyReligions
It happens to girls too. My sister kept growing until she was around 19 - 20. It seemed like she didn't grow evenly tho. She was wearing size 11 shoes in highschool and was around 5' 7" but by the time she was 20 she was squeezing her feet into size 12 and was 6' 1" .. I was always a little jealous because when she was done growing she was proportioned perfectly and guys followed her adoringly.
FitChick
If you are skinny and photogenic you could become a model. If you are athletic, play women's basketball.

I could be wrong though or what I read was wrong but I have no way of knowing the real actual fact because I don't have the education for it.
tbf
Believe your doctor. She/he knows better than the rest of us. It's also not that unusual for men and women to grow another inch even past the age of 20.
Author Gistelle
I grew until I was 21.Wow, that's late too. I guess there are more women that will keep growing than what I thought. I'm not tall. My daughter is 17 and 5'10 , looks like she will go 6'.That's so tall but I really want to stay like this. I like wearing medium to high heels sometimes because they're cute shoes but I already look like a 6 footer when I tried the highest one. Now the doctor said I should still expect 1-3 inches. Hopefully it's only 1 inch. I think I would look weird at 5'10-5'11. But I guess when it comes to genes and your body ordering to keep growing there is nothing you can but accept it. Ironically, many of my shorter female friends wished they had my height and kept growing. Some of them stopped growing in 8th grade or their freshman year in high school. I've asked my family more about it and I find out my great-great grandmother was also a late bloomer who still keep growing past age 18. She was 5'10. I didn't think genes go that far. That's already like 3-4 generations. Edited June 23, 2013 by Gistelle
Author Gistelle
The science is females tend to physically mature about two years ahead of males. That's why girls get boobs between 11-13 and pubes around 13-16 but boys dont get facial hair until at least 17-19. The brains of both aren't fully developed until 25, but the most successful relationships are those with slightly older men and slightly younger woman because of emotional maturity synchronicity, that was the last I was reading aboutYeah, I've seen my friends developed so early. I still wasn't wearing bra at that age, not until age 14. Even then, I didn't see myself developing too much (hardly anything). I still seemed like a little girl at the time. tkcobalt
I'm a 5'11 woman.. and I love it. I know you think it sucks right now.. but when you get a little older you'll come to appreciate your height. Sounds conceited (I'm really not, I promise!) but I get so much more attention from good looking guys than my shorter female friends do. Another plus: I can gain and lose a whole 15lbs and it's barely noticeable because of the tall frame.

That's already like 3-4 generations.Well there you go, genetics plays a substantial role. One of my brothers was below average in height until he hit 17. Then in one year, he grew approximately 6 inches. After that, within the next five years, he grew another few inches. My other brother was always above average in height but stopped growing when he was 14 or so. Most of his friends outgrew him and the other brother referenced, also outgrew him. My sister grew at a very steady pace but also continued growing very, very slowly past 18. I was a shrimp my entire life, where growth stopped at 12 so I'm still a shrimp. If you notice, even though we're all siblings, our growth rates and timing varied substantially due to genetics.
darkmoon
taller is lovely, it is striking, gets you noticed in a crowd, i am short, it is nothing special to be 5' 3"
ScreamingTrees
And then a woman gets her wish, grows to be 5'10+, and wishes she were shorter because she's either taller than, as tall as, or slightly shorter than the majority of men and doesn't "feel feminine" or attracted to any of them. Nobody ever wants what they have.. Get something else, you'll quickly figure out why you should never have wanted it in the first place.
pink_sugar
I pretty much finished growing at age 14. Was around 4'11' at age 12/13 and stopped at 5'3" at the end of middle school.
