tiki
Yeah, so I had my first abnormal pap smear a month ago. I went in this morning for a colposcopy and they wound up having to perform TWO biopsies of my cervix. ARRRGH. I get the results in ten days. Dammit. My OB/GYN wants to set me up for surgery. Laser surgery or some crap, I'm assuming on my cervix. Has anyone had this? Or know anyone who has? I have pre-cancerous cells so I guess they want to laser the bastards. I'm getting married in two months and they want to do the procedure before then. They said 2-3 weeks of discharge from the surgery. I want to see what the biopsy results say. I'm pissy. Sorry. Anyone familiar with a funk cooch?
netrie
I had this before... It is a clean cut procedure. I think it was called Cone something. Id have to look it up. Do you feel good with the doctor? Don't worry if so. Its basically a cutting away of an abnormal cell tissue. And then you'll need to be checked every 6 months after that. Hang in there! CurlyIam
Surgery? I hope it's not the case. The thing is that with these ultraperformant machines they detect the slightest anormalities. Pills most likely. 've been there too - abnormal cells. Didn't go to recheck it, but it's on my list. Stop Thinking about the worst, because it's not gonna happen. HAve lots of faith. Girl, I'm so sure you're as healthy as a horse !!!!! You'll see!
Lainie
Hey mate, I had the same thing happen to me this year! I had to have 5 biopsies taken during my colposcopy, it hurt like nothing else. I had to go in for laser surgery shortly after that because my case was getting pretty bad. The surgery was fine, i couldn't feel anything post-op. A tiny bit of discomfort and that was it. The colposcopy was more painful. I didn't have much of a discharge, but you do have to let it heal for about 6 weeks. Make sure you go back for your follow up examinations because it may come back. IT's awkward and uncomfortable, but it could save your life! Hang in there, you'll be fine. If i can do it (I'm terrified of pain and needles, I was ready to leave before the anesthetist got there!!), you can. Good Luck!!

Do you feel good with the doctor? Don't worry if so. Its basically a cutting away of an abnormal cell tissue. nope thats actually a different procedure. much more extreme. tiki your talking about cryotherapy, which i have had done (and then some). they take a laser and burn the abnormal cells off the surface of your cevix. its not exactly fun. you get menstual-like cramps (not too bad). and you get a blackish discharge as the dead cells fall out. ick. i have been going through this for years (the first normal paps i have ever had have been this year, thank god). i have had all sorts of surgeries, so i know what you are going through. it really, really sucks. it is emotionally draining more than anything because all you worry about is cancer and having kids. if you have questions or need someone to talk to feel free to pm me anytime. good luck! 've been there too - abnormal cells. Didn't go to recheck it, but it's on my list. oh my god, please don't be stupid. go get it checked out. this is how almost all cases of cervical cancer start. and the cancer is preventable/treatable if you get to it before it starts. her docs would not do surgery for an abnormal pap due to bc pills. these people are trained to know the difference. my friends mother is in the hospital dying of cervical cancer from the same thing (she probably only has a week or 2 left to live) it breaks my heart. had she gone to the gyno like she should have this would have never have happened. that is why cervical cancer is so widespread right now. women of that generation did not think it was important to see the gyno regularly, especially after they were finished having children. the numbers of cases of cervical cancer will be plummiting starting with our generation because women are finally realizing how important regular visits are. that way they can catch things early and nip it in the bud. please take it off your to do list and just do it. you don't realize how much you might be putting yourself at risk. maybe it is bc pills in your case, maybe not. don't wait until it is too late. your health is the most important thing you have!!!!!!! moimeme
Cervical cancer is actually one of the easiest to treat and one of the most successfully cured. But you have to find it so it's good that they're keeping an eye on you. Just keep being diligent about getting your pap tests and go in for treatment when you need it and you'll be fine. gwennebe
I also have had two surgeries for displaysia with a laser. It's not painful just bad cramping and what not. I was scheduled for my third surgery when I decided to hell with it I"m tired of this and I was worried about the surgeries affecting my future (having kids) so I researched and found a vitamin on the internet called betta-maan. Not sure of the spelling I can double check. Anyway, took the pills for 3 months as perscribed and when I went back in 3 months it was compeltely gone. I had stage 3 displaysia also which is right before it turns into cancer and the vitamins seriously helped my immune system so I could fight it off. If you have any questions or can't find the vitamins online just let me know if your interested in learning more about them. I thought I was out of hope but I wasn't. Hopefully good luck will come to you to.

Author tiki
The biopsies showed the same thing as the pap smear. Mild dysplasia (pre-cancerous). He told me that I had two options: - surgery now - repeat procedures in 3 mos (pap, colposcopy, biopsies) to see if it's reversed, if not, then surgery He said sometimes it just 'goes away'. I don't want surgery. I'm going to pray like hell that mine goes away. I follow up in January. I was relieved that he wasn't gung-ho on automatically doing surgery. ~Thanks for your thoughts and prayers guys.
CurlyIam
Tiki... why aren't you doing the operation? What's the worst case scenario if your displasya does not reverse?
Author tiki
I guess it just spreads to cancer. That's all that can really happen. I'm getting married December 13th and want to wait until that's over and done with. With this operation I'll have 2-3 weeks of yuck discharge and technically, no sex for 6 weeks. That's right into my honeymoon.
CurlyIam
Tiki... are you f***ing kiddin' me? I know honeymoon is veru very VERY important, but.... so is your life. I mean, really think about what you're putting at risk here. If you were pregnangt and it would have been a possibility to somehow endanger your child, I'd say "maybe" ! I already told you I had a bad Pap. It's time to go check it again - in a couple of weeks, and my libido seems to be down to zero percent. I feel as if something were wrong. It's all in my head, but then, I'm rather taunted by this... Tiki,honey... You can get married any day you want to, after the surgerory. Please please please reconsider. Even if the chances are very small for something bad to happen.
gwennebe
Chances are though, the displaysia will not turn into cancer in that short amount of time. It can take up to years. Of course even a doctor can not tell you for certain but speaking from my own experiences I would wait for 3 months and do a follow up. The best thing you can do is to take better care of yourself. Get more sleep, try not to stress out, eat lots of green veggies and stop smoking if you do. You can also try taking Folic Acid, A, D, E and vitamin C to help boost your immune system because the only way to get rid of it without surgery is for your body to fight the virus off itself. Good luck in whatever you decide.
Author tiki
Cervical cancer is the slowest growing cancer is what I was told by the doctor. It's not even cancerous yet. And some people will have dysplasia that ends up disappearing. He said it may not happen, but it's a possibility. My wedding in Hawaii and honeymoon has been scheduled since July. We paid $4500 cash for everything. We worked our asses off to save. There is no way in any shape, form, or fashion that we'd ever cancel this. I feel certain that if my doctor felt it to be imperative, that I'd have it done, I trust his judgment. He gave me options and I chose.
Author tiki
Thanks gwenn....I'm going to check into that vitamin you recommended. And pray A LOT.
gwennebe
Hello again. I just wanted to let everyone know I had MY tests results today after my first normal pap in two years and this one came back abnormal!! UGHHH. I'm even still taking my vitamins. The DR said she just wants me to come back in 4 months and doesn't think it is anything to worry about at this point. So after all this time thinking things were finally going to be ok they are not!
