sillyanswer
In your adult lives, have any of you been on dates with a chaperone? How did that turn out? Do you have a view on this? Recently I asked a girl on a date, and there wasn't any misunderstanding that it would be a date, and after some clashing of schedules to find a date we agreed a time and location... and then she says "My brother and I will meet you there." Anyway, they both turned up. I bought a round of drinks (including for the brother) and we sat at a table and had a chat... it was a bit of a 3-way chat with both of them asking about me and me asking about both of them. Quite a good conversation... but it felt not like any date I've been on before. Whether there was a coded communication between the girl and her brother I'm not sure, but there came a point where he faded out of the conversation ("checking messages" on his phone) so I could talk more with the girl... and a little while later the brother announced that he was leaving and, thankfully, the girl said she would stay a while longer. He bought me a drink on his way out. The rest of the date continued more like a normal first date... at least there were the right number of people! Not sure on a second date... she's invited me out and I've invited her out but so far we have diary clashes. Not sure if she'll be bringing a chaperone for another date. Anyway, it was a very unusual experience for me, so I'm curious to know if anyone has dated in a similar fashion.
will1988
My cousin set me up with one of her friends years ago... the girl was average looking but ditzy as hell... I was going through a dry spell and this chick pretty much told my cousin she liked me. So I said, sure why not. So I went on a date with her. We met at the mall close to where she lives, but about an hour drive for me. Her two younger brothers, high school aged, and one of their friends came a long. It was the most awkward thing ever. Unlike you, I did not buy them drinks (obviouslly it was illegal for me to do so, being an adult, but also because i wanted to get the hell out of that situation) nor did the date last very long when this girl said she was afraid of everything... she refused to go down the escolator, and when going down the stairs she wanted me infront of her incase she fell because she couldn't grab the germ infested railings (her words). Her younger siblings were making jokes the whole time and teasing her about being on a date, and me. It was too awkward and too embarassing, so after we grabbed a slice of pizza from one of those crappy food court pizzarias i said it was fun but i only could see us being friends, and left. That was the one and only time, and if i ever become single again and a grown woman brings along someone else, especially a family member im going to go nuts. been on first double dates a few times, they are so so... i prefer one on one time.

That sounds awful. I think I got off lightly! If they were under age it sounds more like she was on child-minding duty for her younger brothers than they being chaperones for her... although, maybe she brought them deliberately so that she wouldn't be on her own with you? That was the one and only time, and if i ever become single again and a grown woman brings along someone else, especially a family member im going to go nuts. Sounds like a plan!
