Green Tomato Extract/Buidling Muscle/Repairing Muscle

Not for me, but for my boyfriend. He said he wants to get some because it is good for building muscles fast. He broke his ankle last year and I guess he read somewhere that GTE helps repair tears and helps you recover faster from a workout (or something like that). Unfortunately, it is very hard to find GTE. I heard some sites mention it is illegal because it's like steroids? Really, from a green tomato?

Anyone heard of it? I googled it and I found one (Brand name: Endothil-CR) that costs over $100 for the supplements. What is so special about it? Does it work? OR is there something that is equally as good?

...or deer antler velvet or buffalo urine...

I wouldn't waste the money on it. I would suggest three things for building muscle: glutamine, a branch chain amino acid supplement, and/or creatine.

Most of these "natural" testosterone boosters don't do anything that actually builds muscle.

That said, I'm currently experimenting with d-aspartic acid, which has some promising research behind it. I found it in bulk for so cheap that I figured I'd experiment and take some notes.

I'm not sold either way, but I've definitely noticed increased aggression and sex drive. Gym sessions have been good, and I've been recovering well. That said, if you google "d-aspartic acid" side effects, it seems to have a wide range of responses depending on the individual (beware).

So far, I'm no worse for the wear and have only experienced positive effects. Whether or not it's all in my head or not (placebo)- who knows?

The problem with most of these kinds of supplements is that for the money, the effect you get might be so small that you wouldn't notice it anyway, ESPECIALLY if your training and diet aren't already in order. You also want to be careful because the supplement industry isn't really regulated at all. With little to no regulatory oversight, you're basically at the mercy of what the supplement company is telling you.

It's always a double edged sword. Just weigh all options carefully and know that there's no such thing as a (legal) magic bullet, and even then, there's no free rides. There are consequences to most of these things, especially if they work well, haha.

If your bf is having trouble with his ankle, the best thing is to probably see a qualified physical therapist or coach who can help prescribe corrective exercise to help strengthen and mobilize what needs to be strengthened and mobilized.

I agree. Generally speaking, anything without a prescription won't do much...
