Back to your original post, I agree with your logic. As a matter of legal fact, although sodomy laws exist on the books, they are unenforceable almost everywhere because they have been so long unenforced. Sodomy is defacto legal, and everything related to the establishment of a "gay household" is legal. The only thing not "legal" about it is when you claim dependent status for the purpose of tax deductions or employment benefits.

The irony of polygamy laws is that everything the polygamist does is likewise legal UNLESS you attempt to bless it with marriage, then you're headed to prison. Your neighbor who's screwing their six "roommates" has no problem.

Polygamy laws are not about sex or household composition, but about outlawing weird religious practices. For that alone I oppose them. Why a lifelong commitment to your bed-buddies should make multi-partnering illegal, I do not understand.

An earlier poster mentioned apprehensions about pedophilia related to polygamy, and at first I was thinking that was silly, polygamy doesn't cause pedophilia. But I got thinking, the most common form of polygamy (albeit not technically married) is the man who moves in with the single mom and ends up screwing the daughters, nieces, and hangers-on. (Maybe not on your block, but in low income areas this is very, very common.) It's more akin to informal prostitution maybe than marriage, maybe, but in any case it involves minors, though not necessarily "children".

WHAT!!!!

Is someone infringing on my first amendment rights???

There are no "weird religious practices" according to US law.

If some women dont mind polygamy then why have it be illegal, they should have that option if they so desire. For a 40 year old woman its not easy to find a single man, why condemn her to spend her days alone unprotected? Its always good to have options. The more options the better.
