I just took my blood pressure and these are the numbers:

SYSTOLIC – 163

DIASTOLIC – 84

Pulse - 79

Does anyone know if those are a bit high? I'm under a lot of stress lately, and I just wanted to find out. :)

Thank you!! :)

Also - I don't know if this is a factor but I'm 19. I heard that if you're under 15 or something, it's different.

There is no "ideal" blood pressure reading. However, there is a range of "normal" blood pressure reading. Generally, a reading that is less than 140 over 90 indicates that you don't need to worry. If either or both numbers are equal to or greater than 140 over 90 for an extended period of time, you have high blood pressure, or hypertension.

I think 'extended period of time' is the key. But by all means get checked out at the doc.

We were taught in nursing school that anything over 160/80 was high. Once I got into the medical field and had hands on experience, I realized the norm was about 130/80. Different studies will vary a little.

Are you overweight? Do you exercise? Your resting heart rate will be lower if you are an athlete (or frequently get cardiovascular exercise). I've seen pulses in the low 50's from an athlete.

You can always check with your doc. ;)

Wow, I am a 21yr old female and lately when I have taken my blood pressure it has been like 150/101 or somthing along those lines and my pulse rate is always between 100-110. THis is starting to scare me!!

I'd keep checking it and keeping track. I regularly have 130 over 95 and my Dr. recently put me on 25mg of Atenolol. I've been on it for a month now and unfortunately it is still the same. I go to see him again in two weeks for a follow-up... :(
