Checked it out (bear in mind it's nearly midnight here, I nearly went over the time limit!) and I completed the spaceship reconstruction. Took me a few goes, but I finally got it together!

NBice little bit of make-believe! :D

LOL, nah. I wouldn't want to lose my job. You know the negative stigma this brings with it. :)

I actually don't even think Roswell is on the top 5 most important UFO cases. If we really wanted to celebrate an important one, we should do the RAF Bentwaters, UK case in 1980.

I know you're somehow keeping your most beloved hobby secret in "real life". I was thinking maybe just watch ET with your kids, or spend a night looking for "shooting stars" ;).

I have to admit that one of my favorite movies as a kid was "Flight of the Navigator". I think it would be perfect to watch around now...it takes place around the 4th of July. :)

Well considering that my ex wife tried to make me out to seem like some fringe crackpot by telling the judge I was interested in UFOs, I've quickly learned to keep quiet. (It didn't matter that I have a steady job and have proven to be a stable dad. The mere interest in UFOs, in her opinion, should have disqualified me from getting custody.)

Incidentally, Elisha told people to keep quiet over the fact that Elijah would soon be taken away by the chariot (read 2 Kings 2:3). There is clearly a necessity to not be public with this subject even in Scripture.

I wouldn't want to watch ET with my kids because they might start buying the propaganda and get a distorted view of an important subject.

Yeah, best to sacrifice a little for the sake of time with your kids. :)

(Well, depriving them of ET...that's almost too far!)

Fortunately the judge knew that just about everything out of my ex's mouth in court was exaggeration or deception.

And for the record, I believe in the literal words of Christ that he who puts even his own family above him (Christ) is not worthy of the Kingdom. Fortunately God has been merciful enough to me so that I haven't had to make truly, truly sacrificial decisions, but I do believe that Christ comes first. I would die for my children. I love them more than my own life. But Christ is my first love and this means following TRUTH is also my first love. I won't live a lie in any form just to keep my children. Otherwise they'll see a father who is a coward and who has sold out. I'd rather them see their father who stood up for the truth even if it meant him going to jail or losing custody than a father who remains in a "stable family" while living a lie.

The judge did look at me after she made the UFO comment. (You see? The issue resonates with people--either good or bad.) I made SURE to look at him in a relaxed manner and made SURE to not look away. I kind of made a body language gesture as if to say, "C'mon."

No, you made a look/gesture in order to convince the Judge your ex-was lying. Which actually compromised your own personal beliefs in the systems you give credence to.

It's ok, I'm sure we've all done it in one way or another...

My gesture was intended to show that the issue of UFOs has zero bearing on a child custody ruling. Unless, of course, I'm in a secret cult which sacrifices children.

Wow, in your intention to be "punchy" (as you say), you've actually touched upon a truth that many Christians don't like to touch. God did, in fact, test Abraham to see if he would sacrifice/kill his son Isaac. Obviously it was merely a test and it never happened since God stopped him. But the truth remains that sacrifice of firstborn males is a staple of nearly all ancient religions--and continues to be in many cults today. Instead of denying this or calling it sick, we should instead ask WHY is this the case? It all points to God sacrificing Christ. He doesn't ask anyone else to actually go through with it. He takes that responsibility, thankfully. But it's still pretty sick, isn't it? This is why I always say God is pretty rough around the edges and not refined as we like to consider him. As C.S. Lewis said in his story about the lion, the lion is "not tame", but he is "good".

... And when you consider that it was God guiding and helping Lot to escape Sodom and Gomorrah, how Lot ended up with his daughters is a pretty depraved subject and one we now look upon with nothing but criticism and condemnation... particularly given his previous attitude to them....it's pretty warped .....

(I'm not holding you up to criticism or ridicule through this, BtW....)

It was Lot, not God, who offered his daughters to the Sodomites. This is yet another example of whether God caused something or merely allowed it. There is a difference. On a bigger scale, God has allowed Satan to have temporary authority over earth.

This answers many questions, which leads to more questions. Actually a good topic for discussion.

When People bring this up, one can't help but to agree with them, although felt I might be disobedient by agreeing. I can only go by the fact that His ways are not ours, and He's perfect. This is something that would excellent to go deep into.

Psssst *whispering in your ear* just bring up animals to Tara and she melts :)

Actually, quite the opposite.

I don't 'melt' at the mention of animals, I 'harden' at the stupidity of some animal-owners. My sympathy, always, lies entirely with the pets.

Yes. And that's exactly why it can be so dangerous to follow the beliefs and conventions of a culture. Even the Christian culture. We can be convinced that we have the proper understanding of certain issues and even be adamant about them. But unfortunately it doesn't matter what we think. God's opinion is the only one that matters and it's the only one we will be judged by. This even applies to more "strange" aspects of God (and the Bible does say he is "strange") like having seemingly arbitrary laws, showing symbolism through numbers/numerology, or coming off as harsh. God can literally do whatever he wants. Call it weird or even disagree with it, but what are you going to do about it? He is God, we are not.

I have to say this is quite refreshing, and I feel like a weight has been lifted. These are the questions we have in our hearts, but may not know how to express them.

Look at the unusual things God told various Prophets to do. To the natural mind it could seem a bit crazy, but it was perfectly reasonable to God. I've done what could be considered "strange" in the name of God, or being obedient to His command/prompting. I didn't or don't care because there is a knowledge that it is God and so I do it.

God is not palatable to some. Jesus in some ways fit's more of what people think God should be. I like the weirdness of God personally...no, some things don't make sense, but a majority does once one understands (to the ability of "our" understanding) God's reasoning.

M30, I want to really, really thank you for these two posts. There was a very dark place in which my thinking was headed due to a series of non related issues, but on the same subject, they were consecutive. After reading your first post on this particular subject (the weirdness of God), it began to break and was completely broken off with this current one. There has never been more fear concerning a line of my own thinking.

Oh, and am very much into God's meaning of numbers/numerology, in fact love it!

Again, thank you...
