Betterthanthis13
I was a young teenager when Nirvana's Nevermind album came out in 1991 and that cassette tape changed my life. (Yes, tape- shut up) I must have played that tape 10 million times. I thought I was in love with Kurt Cobain while all my silly friends were busy going to New Kids on the Block concerts. Anyway---getting to the point here-- I have resurrected one particular song (Lounge Act) from Nevermind onto my current Spotify playlist and find myself singing to it at the top of my lungs in my car while playing air drums on my steering wheel. Then today I thought hmmm..... I wonder what songs other people listen to that make them play air drums? I'm really particular about music but I'd love to read the lyrics of the songs that get you guys all pumped up and feeling more positive! If you just post the artist/ title, I can google the lyrics, but if you post the lyrics and a little explanation that would rock. Kurt supposedly wrote this song about his ex girlfriend, but who knows. He was pretty high on smack most of the time. Here are the lyrics to Lounge Act, and why it makes me feel better at the bottom: Truth covered in security I can't let you smother me I'd like to but it couldn't work Trading off and taking turns I don't regret a thing And I've got this friend, you see Who makes me feel and I Wanted more than I could steal I'll arrest myself I'll wear a shield I'll go out of my way to prove I still Smell her on you Don't tell me what I wanna hear Afraid of never knowing fear Experience anything you need I'll keep fighting jealousy Until it's ****ing gone And I've got this friend, you see Who makes me feel and I Wanted more than I could steal I'll arrest myself I'll wear a shield I'll go out of my way to prove I still Smell her on you Truth covered in security I can't let you smother me I'd like to but it couldn't work Trading off and taking turns I don't regret a thing And I've got this friend, you see Who makes me feel and I Wanted more than I could steal I'll arrest myself I'll wear a shield I'll go out of my way To make you a deal We've made a pact to learn from who Ever we want without new rules Well we'll share what's lost and what we grew They'll go out of their way to prove They still smell her on you They still smell her on you Smell her on you Why it makes me feel better- interpretation: I am not crazy and I never was. You can't cover up an awful truth with false security. I won't allow you to smother me with your lies. I almost fell for it because I am a trusting person but it could never work. I'm so grateful I have friends to make me feel human, there are other people like me, I'm not crazy. This isn't and never was ok. I don't regret learning this lesson. I see now that I wanted more than I could ever get (steal) From you. In that way I allowed the lies for awhile but I will go so far as to arrest myself and wear a shield, do whatever it takes for myself now because I don't live like this. Not I don't want to live like this and I expect you to change, I DON'T LIVE LIKE THIS PERIOD-- you do whatever you want now, this has gone way too far. All my senses tell me you are nowhere near the person you pretended to be, which is a shame because had you been honest a lot sooner it would have been much easier for me to help you and stay your best friend. Right now knowing you looked me right in the eye and lied to me for well over a year makes me want to punch you in the face and then puke on you. Ok I got off topic on the song interpretation at the end. Kurt also starts screaming the words in the middle of the song which really helps me get it out of my system. After I listen to this a couple times I am able to smile and be pleasant at work or at home or at the gym. I also think lyrics look really funny out of context if you don't know the music. I may have already said that somewhere in this dissertation. Ok hitting submit now.
