Died in his late 30's? Something wrong there health wise?

I like watching these sort of videos whilst I work out.

Today I did my developed workout. I did a quick warm up of press-ups and sit-ups

Then put 10kilos on the barbell and did 10 reps of:

Military press

shrugs

biceps curls

forcep curls (if that is what they are called)

Squats

Lunges

I then did it with 15 kilos, this is where I felt some increase in the workout and felt like I would be making gains.

I then went back to 10 kilos for final sets.

Thoughts?

Aint that the truth...

Frankly I wish I could find a place like that myself..I belonged to a gym like that in the mid 80's..Spitting on the floor, arguments/fights..It was a bit intimidating, but it was awesome,,If you were a noob, the heavies just threw you off the equipment when they wanted it....You didnt set foot in that place unless you had a 315 bench and a 405 squat..They even had satin jackets that they gave members like you were in a gang or something.

That sounds like a gym a buddy of mine took me to.

It was full of musclehead types, everybody's on roids, they had special racks so that the juicemonkeys could put up insane amounts on leg presses and benches etc. Tractor tires with ropes on them that they'd drag around this little track. I was the skinny newb, everybody was nice though. All you have to do is compliment one of the older crowd guys and ask how he does some workout and they will be your best friend for a month.

There's no way to gain weight without some fat.

Do more pushups/situps and more weight exercises, if you are a runner or whatever cut down on the cardio.

Far be it from me to question a champion but I would ask him why? Its a base movement..The only thing that I can think of is that if you dont have a solid core and your form sucks you can really cause an injury..

While on the subject of core strength, this is the most important thing to building a good base..Your core will determine just about anything you do..Focus on those movements and everything will fall into place from there..

Some years ago, I had to have an emergency appendectomy..The scar is 5" long which is giant for one of these procedures...When I came to the doctor said to me."Im sorry for the huge incision..Your stomach wall is SO thick I just kept cutting and cutting before I got through!"..While I am not happy with the nasty scar, I felt pretty good that I had a thick wall of core musculature..

Just follow your guidelines..Eat a lot of clean foods and train hard and heavy..

No one was nice there...There was so much attitude it was ridiculous.. I was just a kid..Me and my buddy went there. I wouldnt have had the balls to set foot in that place if it wasnt for my buddy Rob..He was a gregarious type and made friends with everyone..We took a lot of crap in the beginning, but we eventually passed the "initiation" and fell in with the heavies.

They had a wall board where they would put your name up if you reached a benching milestone..The manager there had to witness it and you had to do it twice to make it count..It was cool..

One guy I know from back then a few years ago tried to get a reunion together of all the regulars..I thought it was a great idea...Problem is so many had died..It was depressing..:(

Okay, so I weighed and I'm about 10 stone 8 pounds. How accurate the scales are is very questionable.

I'm 5'11''

Turns out I have actually gained a stone in the past 3 months.

I plan to attempt 2500 calories a day and then increase it.

Roughly, at the moment I am getting around a thousand I reckon.

I have started recording my intake on a special website that seems quite good.

Haha...Actually they ran Jimmy the Greek(Us sportscaster) out of his job for basically saying what I just did. Like its a crime to say that as a race they are superior in many sporting events??..Its the truth frankly..Its not a coincidence that the NBA, NFL and other events are pretty much dominated by those of African ancestry.. Even look at someone like Serena Williams..She doesnt win every event but her body type is so much more dominant than any of the other women..Its hard to compete against that type of physical specimen...Anyway..

I would do no more than 8-10 reps..Go as heavy as you can so that you are REALLY working to get to the last two reps..Not so much that you fail to maintain proper form mind you, but it needs to be heavy enough that it really challenges you on the last few reps..If you can just do the set and put the weight down, you wont get that much out of it...Its probably the most common mistake I see people make. The body just "adapts" if it isnt being pushed hard. When you "adapt" you wont grow..Its as simple as that.

Good luck..

Well, if we're going to be "un-PC" for a moment, it's odd how powerlifting and strong man competitions are dominated by white northern/north eastern Europeans. To say that ol whitey is totally physically dominated by ol blacky in every way is bull****.

If you want to even attempt to be objectively comparing two insanely large and varied groups of people, I could play the stereotyping game and say that while black folks may be faster and more athletic on average, they're not as physically strong in general. Which would possibly explain the demographics on average of **** like basketball/strongman competitions being blacker/whiter..

So I think your story is good if you didn't try to bring stupid **** like "race" into the discussion. Those kids could've grown up to look like these guys for all you know..

OP, I wouldn't take this guy's word as gospel. I also personally would rather leave vague generalities like "race" out of it, as it has nothing to really do with the topic.

There are lots of cheap foods that you can buy that are high in protein.. Greek yogurt, canned fish, dairy products.. But please, make sure you eat some fruits and veggies as well, they all play an important part in your overall well-being and growth.

Its an anecdotal story based on my own personal experience, please show me where I said anything about black people dominating every sport/event out there? But no one would argue the points I made about them dominating sports like basketball and football...Wasnt made to imply anything...But alas, something wrong with the reading comprehension..Black people arent strong? I guess you have never heard of the exploits of physical strength by a guy like Larry Allen, former NFL lineman..Was probably the strongest player to have ever played the game..Yes he is black..

And no one should take anyone's word as gospel, but I probably can offer more in the way of real world advice than many...So bash away if you like...

Because of this jackasses post, I will no longer offer any useful advice to anyone in this forum..Im done...Its unfortunate that it had to come down to this because I do have a lot of real world experience and can offer people some help...

Now he can rely on you, Mr Screaming Trees and others..Im sure you can guide all people to reach their ultimate goals..Sorry in advance to anyone who may have taken my posts as useful information..

I think you'll find that he didn't say 'black folk' he said people of african ancestry. So not all black people! Because that is a bit broad.

We have discussed this. I don't see why you are reviving a thread that has been dead for a few days just to bring this up.

Typical middle class white person been offended again.

OP,

I'm in a similar that you are in. I started working with a personal trainer about 3 months ago and have since gained 8 pounds and I have physically gotten stronger (not by much mind you but notable progress).

What my trainer has me doing right now eating lots of complex carbs (red potatoes, brown rice, those kinds of foods) along with lots of protein (meats, eggs, shakes if you can stomach them).

As far as working out, he picks what we're doing based on me and what he wants to work on. It's been working out pretty good for me and I enjoy it very much.

My own advice: Consider hiring a trainer if you can afford it, they'll motivate you and study you, balancing what you can do versus what you need to be doing and they can help coach you on proper forms, what you need to be feeling, etc...

My own 2 cents

I wish I could afford a personal trainer!

I've been working out every other day doing a set routine. I am seeing some results already. But am worried that I am not working hard enough.

You need to eat big and do heavy compound lifts. That's the only way you'll grow. Trust me. I started working out in December and I work out 5 days a week without fail. So far, I have gained 12 lbs. You need to be bench pressing, pull ups, chin ups, rows, squats, deadlift. This will build up your base. Once you have a solid base, then you can move onto isolation exercises. These exercises are meant to sculpt. Your diet needs to consist of high protein, moderate carbs, and low (but essential fats). Salmon, chicken, steak... Those will be your best friends. Vegetables, eat lots of them. Vegetables make your body more alkaline than acidic (which comes from eating a lot of meat) and provides a solid environment for muscle growth. You ALWAYS want your body to be more alkaline than acidic.

You may also want to look into supplements if you are not lactose intolerant. Optimum Nutrition makes some of the best supplements in the industry and their Whey Protein is top rated. Even if you are lactose intolerant, there are many viable alternatives. This one brand I use called iSupp is a great company based out of the UK. All of their products are lactose free and work great. I use their Accumulate and Pure Protein products. Accumulate helps me get the carbs and fats that I can't ordinarily cram down and Pure Protein is, well pure protein. I'm not lactose intolerant but their products go down easier for me.

Cheers Pompeii. I'm working on my diet. It's difficult because I've never been very strict with my diet. I have manage to increase my amount of protein. After tonight I shall be cutting out the crap and really working hard to increase my calorie intake. Will be getting Whey Protein soon. Most of the stuff is expensive and I don't have a lot of cash to spend on the stuff.

I was doing a full body workout every other day with a barbell. Working my arms, chest and legs. But as of last night I have decided to do a split work out. I did some research and that seems best for an ectomorph.

Leg workout will be squats, lunges and something to work the calfs.

Arms is with a barbell. Bicep curls, forearm lifts, military press, shrugs.

I'm also doing sit-ups, press ups and bench presses as part of each routine.

I will be getting a chinning bar soon to work my back.

Just so you know, you don't necessarily need to get a big ass tub of Whey Protein. It can be good if you buy in bulk but you don't need to consume it religiously. One scoop of Optimum Nutrition Whey gives you 25 grams of protein and ~120 calories. If you're on a 3,000 calorie diet like I am, that's almost 5% of your daily calories. If you're eating right, you don't need much else.

Also another thing, try not to get a lot of your calories from liquid form. Liquid simply doesn't deliver the amount of nutrients solid food does. People think all calories are the same but stuff such as soda, cookies, candies, and all other assorted junk food and snacks are loaded with what are called "empty calories". They simply don't pack the same punch (and never will) as a solid meal does. That's why I've never understood the broscience behind "dirty bulking". Basically slamming as much food as you can down your gullet irregardless of what it is. That's why people don't gain as much muscle as they'd like and more fat than they'd like, because they "dirty bulk". Nutrition counts for a lot. Some would even say that it's 80% of fitness.

Watch this, this guy's name is Steve Cook and he's a sponsor for Optimum Nutrition. He makes GREAT videos on bodybuilding. Watch and learn from it. I did.

- Part 1

- Part 2

Watch both of them.

Sorry I took so long to reply. Busy few days.

I do 3 sets of 10 and then reduce the weight after each set after that.

What's the best way to measure myself?

If I want to measure my arms and forearms should I flex are hold my arms out straight?
