birth control pills...are they safe?

I was wondering are birth control pills safe to take for a number of years? I am wondering this because my gf and I mess around...but we are both saving ourselves for marriage, but we were thinking that it might be a good precautionary thing just to be totally sure that she does not get pregnant yet. My main concern is that after maybe like 7 yrs. or whatever that it might make her sterile? Is this possibly? How likely is it? I Really think that we are going to be with each other always, but we will not be ready to have kids untill at least a few yrs. after marriage and we cannot get married for at least like 3 yrs. (bare minimum, because I am in college and I need to wait untill I am out and at least have my feet partially planted.) Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Because I would like to be the father of her baby/babies some day after we are married.

Thanks for any and all info.

YOU WRITE: "I am wondering this because my gf and I mess around...but we are both saving ourselves for marriage, but we were thinking that it might be a good precautionary thing just to be totally sure that she does not get pregnant yet."

If you are saving yourself for marriage, it is not likely your girl can get pregnant, unless she is having intercourse with others but leaving you out of the action until the two of you are married.

As far as birth control, a competent gynecologist can prescribe a birth control pill that is right for your girlfriend with the proper strength to ensure she does not get pregnant but that will not adversely affect her in other ways.

It may be necessary to switch pills once or twice to get on one that is just right for her. The doctor will do this.

Birth control can be taken safely for a long period of time without side effects, but it should be monitored by a physician.

There have been some studies that suggest women who have taken the pill over a long period of time may be susceptible to certain types of cancer but those findings are not conclusive.

There are some women who seem not to be able to find a birth control pill they can take without having some sort of allergic or other reaction. When that happens, a physician helps them find alternative means of birth control, such as a shot taken every three months, a patch, etc.

For many women, taking the pill eases the effects of PMS and actually helps them to feel better generally.

But if you are not having intercourse, the only way she could get pregnant otherwise is, as I said...to be having sex with other guys...or for you to somehow introduce sperm into her by means other than normal sex.

Don't forget, there are condoms...which would be almost 100 percent effective if you are NOT having intercourse.

There's no safer birth control than keeping your pants on while you are messing around.

Its refreshing to hear that you are so resposible at your age I know men in their thirtys and beyond that have no where near your maturity level so I commend you, applause you, and hope that my daughter finds someone like you when she grows up .

As for the birth control pills it is my understanding that birth control pills have their side affects and they differ person to person, to my knowledge they have never cause a person to be sterile. Its best to have your girlfriend talk to her gyn. about this along with any other risks that they may cause that may not be known to her , today there are many options for birth control.

Good Luck and Happy Holiday's :)
