Vikki_26
Help! I cant seem to get a grip of my eating. I try and stick to weight watchers but i go over each day. I seem to reach 2 weeks then give up. I am stuffin my face with sweets, chocolate, bacon sandwiches well anything i can feed my face with lol Well its not even funny anymore its seriously getting me down. I am 5' 6 and weigh 13 stone 2! I have put on a stone in last few months. I have no medical reasons like thyroid problems. I was on antidepressanrs for about 6 months but took myself off as they were more trouble and good and i was put on them this time last year from splitting up with my ex fiance. But now i am with a lovely guy, home life is okay, work very very very boring. I lost 2 stone twice before the second time i kept it off for a few years to now when ive gained it. I have thought about hypnotism. Anything i seriously need to get a grip as i feel lathargic, tired and lazy due to my weight. Its making me feel down as nothing fits. What should I do? I mean shall i go to the doctor and ask? I never feel full anymore. And all i think about it food. I just want to be the person i used to be, slim, confident and happy in my self. How do you begin a new journey of weight loss?
darkmoon
either you want to be slim or you don't - decide between eating bad foods or staying fat, with every eating choice that you make - or see a counsellor about why you are your own worst enemy Edited July 16, 2013 by darkmoon
Million.to.1
Chocolate and sweets and bacon sandwiches are treats. Not food. You need to shrink your stomach. You've stretched it. Portion control. Have smaller meals. Stop eating late in the evening. Start by allowing yourself to eat WHATEVER you like, as long as it's fresh fruit or vegetables. Have as many as you want. when you think you are hungry and but just want something in your mouth, eat celery. Reduce carbs (bread rice pasta grains etc) to ONLY BEFORE 5PM. Limit refined flour, white bread, gluten etc as much as you can. Eat good proteins like seeds, nuts & fish and chicken. Not sulfate meats like salami or smoked meats, or sausages. Do some research on whats in them. That will but you off. Replace sugar in tea or coffee with stevia. Find ways to reduce your calories. Cook at home as much as possible. Make it easy for yourself. Start by doing things like this as much as possible. Allow yourself a day off when you can eat whatever you like if you do 1 week of good eating. Change your perspective on food. You are using it the wrong way... for comfort or love or something. Food is fuel. It's makes you what you are.
thefooloftheyear
You could likely eat more ffod than you do now and still drop weight.... Forget about the Weight Watchers..Get to a gym and start working out...Mix some cardio in with some weight training..Not enough women triain seriously with weights because they fear they will gain a lot of muscle mass. It wont happen unless you are a freak. Put a bit of muscle on your frame..You will look great! Dont worry about getting huge..Throw all of the garbage food in the garbage.. Go to the grocey store and get some foods like eggs, skim milk, lean meats, potatoes, brown rice, beans, chicken..etc.. Stay away from processed foods and sweets..avoid simple carbs, overly salty foods like pizza and junkfood. You dont need to go all out, stay strict and pick a day a week to stray.. I stay strict all the time unless I get an oddball craving..Yesterday I had a salt craving which I never get. Rather than get a pizza(which would have really hit the spot) I got a bunch of fried chicken wings and ate mostly the chicken and left a lot of the skin. The great thing about this type of "diet" (more like a lifestyle change) is that you will rarely be hungry.. You will get some other responses..There are very knowledgeable people on here. Listen to what they have to say... Good luck TFY
Silly_Girl
How did you do it before? My advice: 1. Start small and be gentle until you get some momentum going. Lots of small changes. Substitute your treats with less fatty/sugary treats. Use sweetener not sugar. Go for a walk, go for several walks... and go to places you enjoy with nice scenery. Have a long hot shower and a low fat hot choc before bed, no snacks or alcohol or fizzy drinks. Be good to yourself. Drink lots of water. Find some healthy, great-looking recipes and enjoy getting creative in the kitchen, feel good about cooking, and eating. 2. Focus on improving the food intake, don't worry too much about an exercise regime. Weight loss is more influenced by diet. As you start to feel better (as a result of the above) you'll probably be minded to work on your fitness and ready to tackle it. When you're self-sabotaging you'll get nowhere with full-on, zero-tolerance regimes. That's my experience anyway, because when you fall off the wagon, you fall hard. Make it a permanent, slow process of change. And keep posting!
Author Vikki_26
Thanks for your great advice all, i cant remember how i did it before. I keep thinking it was easier when i was younger and it fell off quicker as i had a faster metoblism. I have just bought a new freezer (live at home with parents) to put some healthy foods in as i had no room in familys one. So this will help!

I say it because that's 90% of what I read on the subject (here and elsewhere) and my own experience Also, my advice is geared towards the OP and her current state of mind, again, based on my own experiences and people I've seen IRL try then fail, try then fail. RonaldS
It's both diet refinement AND exercise. Anybody who tries to lose weight by eating less without exercising is spinning their wheels. Anybody who tries to lose weight by exercising but still housing huge portions of bad food is spinning their wheels. You'll drop a few pounds here and there, sure, but you're just as likely to very easily put it back on in a bad week. The name of the game is lifestyle change. Eat healthy, eat appropriate portions, drink water, exercise (cardio + weights/muscle building), and get enough sleep. Commit to the lifestyle. You will lose weight, feel better and look great. Don't waste time with 'diets'. Carbs, fats, proteins....your body needs all of those things, so give them to your body. If you have a lot of weight to lose, sorry, you're going to have to consume fewer calories than what you use. No other way to do it. Don't worry about hokey nonsense like greatly reducing/eliminating any particular group (ie carbs). Don't worry about what time you eat (how in the world can it possibly matter whether you eat a meal at 6pm or 9pm, or eat something right before bed??? Makes ZERO sense physiologically). To lose weight, initially reduce your portions, make them healthy (as TFY pointed out, get rid of all the processed and refined garbage). Exercise, and try to get your heart rate as high as you can. Work on building musculature, and take the ample energy stored in your body and use it to help build muscle. And KEEP DOING IT! Don't do it for 2 weeks and then quit. It needs to be your lifestyle. But once you get used to it, you won't want it to be any other way. Good luck.
tman666
Have you considered that you've become accustomed to seeing food as your "excitement" or as a large source of the happiness in your life? A lot of people run into trouble when they end up in a position where eating becomes the focal point of their daily gratification. If this applies to you, you may want to start exploring other things that strike a chord with your passions, whatever they may be. You'll hear a lot of people state that "food is fuel". While this is true, and it helps some people to only view food as fuel (no differently than putting the correct amount of gasoline in your car), I personally feel that a person can teach themselves to have a healthy relationship with good/tasty food while also recognizing when to cut themselves off (as not to get too fat). If you have a problem with snacking, try to limit your intake to regular meal times, and then limit your portions to a reasonable and controllable sizes. Snacking tends to allow a person to pack in a lot more calories without thinking about it. If you limit your food intake to set times and portions, you'll be able to control and adjust a lot more easily. Regular exercise is a must.

How do you begin a new journey of weight loss? You should eat good food, but not too much. You do that for 100 days. By then it's a habit. There's no real shortcut, I'm afraid. Sure, in 10 years you might have an electrode planted in your brain that makes you want to eat less, but until we reach that stage, it's just about your willpower I'm afraid. In a way I do understand though. I'm quite OCD about training, up to the point that it really hampers progress. I have to be really determined to train less.
FitChick
This is more of an emotional problem. Notice when you want to stuff yourself. What is going on? Certain triggers at work do it for me. Other people drink or smoke when they are stressed but I eat candy. Bring healthy snacks to work so you won't be tempted to buy something. It might help if you count your calories. I think myfitnesspal.com was recommended by someone here. You need to get a sense of how much you are eating. Sometimes that keeps me from eating more in the evening if I see that I've reached my caloric limit. Then I will drink strong herbal tea the rest of the evening. Like now I'm having honey chamomile. Do some form of exercise that you enjoy, whether it's swimming, walking, cycling or dancing. It will help your mood and burn calories.
Ashlaria
no idea what 13 stone 2 means? can you translate that in to English American English, like Pounds? :lmao: As someone who weighs 300 pounds (no idea what the translates in to stones... i guess you could call me a bolder and not a stone ) I believe you need to be comfortable with the way you are. There are 14 pounds in a stone so:- 13 stone 2 is 184 pounds. 300 pounds is 21 stone 4 pounds. .
Ashlaria
For weight loss the equation is simple: Food = calories in Exercise = calories out If you eat more than you burn up when exercising you will gain weight and if you exercise and burn up more than you eat you will lose weight. I have never seen a reputable diet that suggests you can lose weight by just food control alone. All reputable diets advocate eating less and exercising more. You can do your fad diets, cabbage soups, slim fast etc but at the end of the day if you are serious about losing weight and keeping it off you must eat healthily, exercise and drink at least 8 glasses of water a day! Depending on how heavy you are to start with a weight loss of 1-2 pounds a week is healthy. Any more than that and you risk flabby skin and an unsustainable weight Good luck

I just can't get around these imperial system booby traps. Pounds is bad enough, but stone is definitely the pits. The sooner everyone starts using kg the better!
