Starting back at square one

So I finally got my interview to enrol on an access course - its only 2 days a week but its a year long and I'd be going straight into Uni afterwards. Its one of the first steps towards starting all over again for me.

Starting a self-employment venture was my first attempt at taking control and unfortunately, unforseen circumstances derailed it. So I've been looking for work and practising my music. I went back to basics so that when I perform again I'll be at a level I'm happy with.

So here goes my second attempt:

1. Study and get degree. I've planned and mapped out where I want to go with this. My easiest way into financial independence right now is and always has been media. So I've earmarked the best media degrees I can find which is multidisciplinary. My particular favorite is the City University BA course of Creative and Cultural Industries. There's a MA course at Goldsmith too which might be great. There are others I'm also looking at. The rate at which employment happens after this degree is pretty high though.

2. Once and for all, GET FIT. I'm still not fit enough and keep slacking. I must maintain discipline. Soon as I get on the course and get a loan, I will start attending JKD class full time, stock up on lots of veg and fish (frozen!!) and go ham! Attaining health and athleticism is a goal of mine, but I have to be more driven. Working on it! Need to get some equipment too!

3. Finish music projects. I have so much to do here and its important that I don't forget my creative pursuits. Practice, writing, performing, recording. I have some amazing ideas - time to unleash them.

4. Move out. This is tricky as mum wants me to stay, but I feel I at least need to have somewhere else that I stay that isn't my dads house (much as I love staying there). Maybe once I'm an undergrad again.

I'm doing a lot of planning, but I also get I need to take a lot of action. I feel optimistic. Like I'm starting anew.

I swear, TW, your optimism is infectious. I feel infused with positivity all of a sudden whenever I read your posts.

All the best, dude. I know you'll succeed in whatever you put your mind to - because you strike me as the type to simply pick himself up and try again even if he fails. Which is the most important bit. ;)

Rooting for you!

You can do it! One day at a time, my friend.

I've found that time management is a skill worth honing. Eliminating or minimizing the things that detract from your goals is another biggie.

For many of us not posting so much on LS would be a start :o

For real... (Nothing against LS or its users: this sentiment extends to the whole internet as far as I'm concerned)

Good luck....

All ill add is this..I went from a 25 year old kid that was dead broke and penniless to total financial independence by the time I was 40. The one main thing I did was to NOT listen to whatever anyone on the street (and my own family)thought was the "ideal" way to live my life. I went with my gut and took some risks..

I wish you all the best in your endeavors...Dont let anyone tell you that you cant do something..

I'm honoured! Thank you very much - I have to pick myself up all the time as nothing would ever get done!! :p

Absolutely. Discipline has been a major sticking point in my life and I have come to the conclusion that it is the single most important attribute that I can cultivate and maintain for a variety of reasons. Managing my time definitely falls under that bracket and I need to put together a routine that will help me navigate things better. Order within my chaos ;).

Agreed! I've already been cutting down the time I spend on here

Thank you! I'll hopefully be doing better soon! :)

I've seen you talk about football(soccer) a few times before, do you play?

If not, maybe try that to get fit. I play on weekends and train twice a week during our winter and it's excellent for fitness.

You don't have to say if you don't want but may I ask what your self employment venture was?

Good luck with the studies mate :)

Go TW!! Don't put too much on your shoulders at one time. You can accomplish #1 and #2, concurrently. #3 can be taken a bit at a time. #4 can wait.
