LostGirl11
So my sister was taken ill lat night and I had to call her an ambulance, they done various tests before taking her to the hospital but the paramedic was more concered anbout me! I'm going through a break up and suffer from depression so I've lost an incredible amount of weight. I've had blood tests recently and they came back normal. The paramedic said that I looked ghostly white and weak and asked if I wanted to go to the hospital to get checked over. My appetite always changes, one day I can eat loads then the next day I want nothing at all but I always try to eat a little something, so it's not like I'm not eating, I'm just not eating enough I guess. I do look thin and pale and I'm feeling self-conscious now. I'm fair skinned at it is so you can imagine how white as a sheet I am. This may be a silly question but are they any foods that will give me a bit colour? Also, I'm not a sun worshipper so I don't really like sitting in the sun for hours but I'm going to sunbathe a little every day while the hot weather is here. Will I tan if I wear sun cream? I have to wear it beacause I burn easily

steveT95
I was exactly like you. I looked incredibly ill when I was in the worst stages of the break up and I was really white too. I didn't have the good weather either. Sitting out in the sun is a really good idea, not only will it help you get a bit of colour but the vitamin D will help boost your mood quite a bit. Eat plenty, and eat healthily. Increase how much you eat as well to put on some weight. Don't be afraid to chow down some doughnuts just for the fat. That's what I did. I used to feel really self conscious too because of my low weight. Remember, it is just a phase and it will pass if you look after yourself. Good luck
turt
Instead of laying in the sun, go for a run instead. If you're really skinny, it will help build your muscle a lot. To improve your skin, one of the most important things you can eat is protein rich foods. Fish is one of the best sources and salmon/tuna contain some the highest levels of essential fats. Eggs, milk and other milk products are also good. You're body constantly uses protein to function. If you go through days without eating much, the essential amino acids your body can't make will come from your muscle (basically, you start withering away). Eat dark green vegetables with canola or olive oil to absorb the nutrients and provide the fats your body needs. Your skin needs fats!

Southern Cal Dude
So how do people get a lovely golden brown tan? Do they not wear sun cream? Doesn't everyone burn? It's genetics. Generally, people who are naturally darker tan easier. My mom is half Italian/half Polynesian. She tans very well. I'm half British and while I don't have an overly difficult time tanning, I don't tan nearly as easily as my mom.
HeartDesires
So how do people get a lovely golden brown tan? They probably don't wear SPF 70 like I do...lol

Author LostGirl11
Yes..... So I'm thinking factor 25, is that too high?
HeartDesires
I think that's about right, because on the face it is recommended that you use at least SPF 20...
turt
So everyone wears sun cream, right? Just a low factor one? Or they would burn, wouldn't they? Once my skin adapts, It will take me 5+ hours to burn. It also depends on the time of year, humidity... Skin only burns when it can no longer withstand the sun's damage.
