How to make my butt bigger?

Well I tried some of the suggestions in the gym yesterday, including tman's one with using the cable rack instead of ham & glute raises in a different thread.... hmmmm, felt the fatigue this morning :laugh:

Yes. Ask any orthopedic surgeon. I was specifically told by three different surgeons to never break 90 if I want to have good knees when I'm older. I don't want to be an old person who can't walk without a cane because I did stuff in my younger years that I shouldn't have. Running and skiing are bad enough. I'm not gonna add to that.

 

A 29 year old guy might not have trouble NOW, but in 10 years...

I squatted 455# for sets of 8-10 yesterday...Breaking parallel and feet at shoulder width.

 

Im a few months shy of 49 years old...NEVER had a knee problem in my life..According to your guy I shouldnt be able to walk..:rolleyes:

 

Last October I sustained a tear of my rotator cuff. couldnt move my arm away from my body an inch..Ortho told me that I HAD to have it surgically repaired or I will NEVER have range of motion in the joint. I couldnt do a single pushup and went from benching 385 to barely being able to do a single rep with an unloaded bar..When I asked if I can rehab it without surgery he mocked me and said that what I wanted to do was "physically impossible"..(those were his words). Its been a long and painful road, but I am about 95% recovered with NO pain and 100% range of motion. Im still not there as far as poundages that I was doing before, but ill be back there before years end..Im not pushing it..

 

Doctors are just people...they dont take into account that all people are different and no one can say what another persons will or mindpower is capable of..Take a look at a para olympics..These men and women defy all that is conventional wisdom..

You also have to consider that these medical professionals are generally exposed only to those with injuries and not those who aren't hurt. In other words, you'll never go see the doctor about knee pain if you don't have knee pain.

 

I'll illustrate with an example.

 

10 people go to the doctor complaining about knee pain. The doctor diagnoses that these injuries were caused by squatting. In the doctor's mind, squatting is bad because squatting caused injuries in 10 cases out of 10 patients. Now, 100 other people aggressively squat with no issue. However, they never have to see the doctor, so he has no idea that you can squat aggressively and actually strengthen your knees. Therefore, he would never recommend squatting to rehab bad knees because no one needs to go see him to tell him it actually works.

You would expect them to be able to see the bigger picture after all those years of studying but I very much doubt most do.

Well of course they will recommend the medical solution, as that's just money in the pocket for them. Or physical therapists who avoid aggressive rehab programs. A more conservative approach means more visits over a longer period of time.

Its a very good point....I am not skeptical of doctors, but I also know a bit about the body and the power of sheer will..Listen to your body and it will usually guide you in the right direction..

Because of my age and fear of injury, I wont max anymore, but it would be interesting to see how much I could do if I had a suit, the right shoes and a really stiff and wide belt...I do use knee wraps on anything 405 and up.,.The powerlifters want me to go to a comp with them and give it a go, but no way..its just not worth it if I blow something up.

 

You want to hear something impressive, though?

 

Yesterday I spotted a girl(19 years old). on the bench..

She did 225 for 3 nice reps.:eek:. Id say she was 5'7" and 135 lbs..In that gym, thats better than about 85% of the girlymen there...:laugh:

Damn, that is a nice bench for a female, especially for 5'7". I'd expect her to be like 4'5" (short stubby arms) with a bench like that. Very cool. It's always funny to see the looks on the faces of some of the guys at the gym when they see a girl lifting heavier than they do. :laugh:

 

Yeah, I probably should invest in some knee wraps at some point. I generally go completely raw for anything up to 315, but beyond that, I use knee sleeves (really just to keep the joints warm, since they add very minimal assistance), and usually a belt for 365+.

 

Lot's of gear can (obviously) add poundage to lifts, but I just don't see myself getting into that. No offense to geared lifters; it's just not my cup of tea. To each their own, I suppose. On the other end of the spectrum, there's the "raw purists" who refuse to use any sort of even modest gear (belt, sleeves, etc.). I think each school of thought has its assets and drawbacks.

For a minute there I was wondering if you were talking about another kind of "gear"..lol ...:p

 

After blowing out my shoulder last year I have become obsessed with injury..I try to balance the two, because I like to go heavy and I feel like my muscles can handle it, but my joints are still a half a century old. :(

 

Enough of the threadjack...Like I said earlier, if you ladies want to get a big ass, just a simple "I do" and you'll be all set:laugh:

Hold the position. The lower you can sit, the better the focus on your butt. And like with all leg exercises, keep the weight on your heels to save your knees.

One thing I've found though is that the lower I go the more my quads burn and the harder it is for me to concentrate on my glutes as a result. Will the burn go away?

I have a feeling this is because you're lifting through your toes and balls of the feet...

I did think that as I was typing because I had my chunkier trainers on. I'll take them off for this next time and give it a go.
