UCFKevin
Eating healthy and doing a bunch of situps and crunches. That's about it. The eating healthy thing is the hardest part for me.
DerangedAngel
You really need to do some kind of cardio as well, or you'll have a nice, fit stomach - just under some fat. So: cardio, crunches (oh we love those), and like Kevin said, eating right. This is so lame, but, there was this 80's exercise video, "Abs of Steel". I got a copy of it from my mother years ago. I still use it. It's the best thing for me. I run daily, dance, and do the entire video probably twice a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less. This makes it possible for me to have a nice stomach (not 'ripped', but flat and toned) - and still eat all the cheesecake I want. Good deal, for me. Cheers. -DA

Urban Rubble01
Do as many crunches as you possibly can. And do these ones also: Lay on your back like normal but take one foot and put it on your opposite knee (your opposite knee should be in the usual situp position). Put your arms behind your head and do the crunches sideways, bringing your left elbow to your right thigh. This way you are working the muscles off to the side, that pulls the fat away from the middle making you look more toned. But some people have a harder time getting a "6 pack" than others. I've always done at least 200 situps a night and I'm already very active (I skateboard for at leat an hour a day). For the last 2 months or so I've been doing an insane amount, like 800 per night, and I still don't have hugely defined abs. I mean, they're visible, but not like alot of people you see. jesusfist
abdominal muscles are like all muscles, doing hundreds of situps may strengthen them but not much at all. If you can go to a gym and do weighted situps it will build up your abs the sameway bicep curls increase the size of your biceps, however! if you have fat over your abs no matter how much work you do on them you'll never see them properly, same with other muscles on your body. So you need to reduce your bodyfat so your muscles become more visable. do a google search into "reducing bodyfat" will give you some tips etc. I know guys who've never worked their abs but still have 6 packs because of their naturally low bodyfat percentage. teck21
Fist is correct. Abdominal muscles are frighteningly easy to get. Getting them to show is the difficult part. I have a pretty good six pack (little bit skewed to my right, but nevermind!), and I don't do anything near 100 crunches daily. What I do is workout 3-4 times a week, and each workout is followed by just a bit of abs. Air bikes: Lie on your back and put your hands behind your head. Raise your legs so your thighs are perpendicular and your lower legs are just above parallel to the floor. Curl up and bring your left elbow toward your right side while drawing your right knee in to meet it. It is like you are riding a bike. Alternate sides, continuing the motion back and forth. Remember, don't just flap your elbow across your body, actually rotate your shoulder across and squeeze your abs. (taken from Bodybuilding.com) I do 2 sets of 25, and then I do a few sets of leg raises. The most important thing though is that I do cardio, ALOT of it. I go for full high intensity runs 3-4 times a week. Reducing the body fat is far more important than doing crunches. Then a again, I am lucky enough to have a naturally very high metabolic rate and very little body fat (putting on weight is a nightmare for me though!). Alot of normal everyday activity exercises the abs already, just nowhere near as much as an ab workout. Cut out the bad foods. Most people with pretty good bodies don't have anything near the strict diets that professionals or obsessed amateurs have. They just exercise and TRY to eat right. After all, what's so difficult about giving up Coke, late night suppers or having fried chicken only occasionally? Not at all. Doing 800 crunches a day is quite mad frankly. Even professional body builders won't do that as a rule. Although depending on body fat, as Fist has pointed out, some people will need to do more crunches and cardio than others. It's the luck of the draw. BURN FAT! By aerobic exercise and some diet management. Always make that the starting point and all else will follow. For almost everyone.
Sukotto
Hell yeah, you can see muscles in my abs slowly appearing. When i broke up with my girlfriend I decided to try and get myself back in shape. I gave up fast food and irn bru (even more sugar than coke). Managed to lose a stone in the first month and i only got to the gym 3 times a week. I usually jump on the treadmill and start with a 1 mile run, its slowly went down from like 7 minutes to just under 6. Then I go rowing for 10 minutes, cycling, weights to build the upper body and then do some work on the abs. I do 100 crunches usually. 40 after first cardio, 40 after 2nd cardio and 20 at the end just before I finish.
Urban Rubble01
So doing that many sit ups is pretty much pointless ? Hmmm, I had no idea. The thing is, I'm pretty physically active and I still don't have very defined abs. I guess I need to eat even better than I have been. So do you guys think I should work out all on one day (and skip a day in between) or work out everyday, just on different muscles ?
teck21
That's too much advice to give, but I strongly suggest you check out www dot bodybuilding dot com. It's targeted primarily at professional or hard core body buidlers, but they;ve got tons of useful information there about exercise routines and types of exercises you can perform for each muscle group in very great detail.
