Similar
I used to be into yoga, meditation, reikki and all sorts of those kinds of things.. crystal healing even, a few years ago. I was very peaceful at the time, I'd do it every morning before work/school. Now I could never be able to concentrate on it.. How do you find your way back to lighting candles in the morning and listening to sounds of whales?? (I was 20 then, a very harmonic 20 year old..) I mean, how do you manage to just lie down and do nothing, without falling asleep..
TaxAHCruel
I mean, how do you manage to just lie down and do nothing, without falling asleep.. My experiences - on going - with Vipassana is that it is the complete opposite of doing nothing. It might look that way from the outside but internally there is all kinds of concentrations going on. It would indeed be a shame if all you got from your immersion into such things in your 20s was a feeling that you were doing nothing. While practitioners of it love changing the phrase "Don't just sit there, do something!" into "Don't just do something, sit there!" for comic effect - the truth is that there is kinds of training of ones moment to moment awareness that is ongoing during every second of a session of Mindfulness Meditation. Perhaps start low with a more popular culture book on the subject like "Wherever you go there you are" and work from there to re-enter the area. Sam Harris also wrote a decent blog Entry on "How To Meditate" at the end of which he also suggests a few books. So a read of that entry might prove useful to you.
