Cardio in smaller spaces

Anyone have some tips on cardio exercises to do in ones garden or at home?

 

Also for warming up before lifting.

 

Also, how much walking is sufficient as cardio in a day?

Prison style:

 

bodyweight squats

push variations

high knees

burpees

jump squats

lunges

jump lunges

chair dips/push ups

shadow boxing

 

As far as walking, it depends on what "sufficient" means. If we're talking sufficient enough for general health, I'd say a 30 minute walk per day isn't a bad start. If you're doing it to lose fat, you might need to walk a LOT more, and probably in a fasted state and at an incline (treadmill comes in handy for this) for it to make much of an impact. Walking is so low impact though that you should really just walk wherever you want, whenever you want.

Get a good jump rope...One thats a cable and has some weight instead of a nylon or leather rope..Once you get good, and can really ramp up the speed, its a hell of a cardio workout..I prefer it over a lot of the other stuff and takes up no room at all...If you live in an apt, you are going to annoy the hell out of your neighbors though..

A treadmil is great, but of course money. I tend to like cardio training (speed walking/jogging) to target heart weight loss/cardio rates (particularly as I am middle aged) for 30-45 mins. A heart rate monitor is pretty inexpensive and I make sure I am walking or jogging in the right zone. I find also that training to the heart rate kind of ends up leading me to a bit of interval training

 

I have some lower back issues - so warm up before weights includes hamstring stretches, swiss ball stretches (various) and a foam roller.

Jump rope is awesome!

 

Also:

  • Jumping jacks
  • Frog squats
  • Mountain climbers
  • If I'm traveling and the hotel gym doesn't open early enough for my schedule, I'll run up the stairs in the hotel.
  • You can also just run in place...but I bore easily.

Walking is great, but IMO, shouldn't be your primary cardio unless you're elderly. It's better than nothing, especially, if you walk primarily hills or uneven terrain, but you should certainly challenge yourself a little more. Most of us can.

lol I thought you might be deployed on a submarine when I read confined spaces maybe try some burpees(cardio) push ups anything involving gravity body wise even star jumps would fine but yeah find space and make it work had friends who where in the navy on board submarines even though they had gyms on board but yeah they still done there basic workouts
