beautifulearth83
I just watched this video and it made me anxious and well up a bit like I was going to cry. It really hits home for, for some reason I get really messed up about discrimination and stuff. Especially when it's people who are chasing material things or the american dream. I don't really know what that means, and how I'm supposed to bring that into a career for myself. I'd love to be a songwriter or write a book or do SOMETHING to express how I feel about the way people treat each other. I don't know. I just love people and life, and it's so hard to live in this world sometimes because there is so much nonsense all over the place, and I don't want to be part of it. But I don't want to sacrifice my position either, and be taken advantage of. Can anybody resonate with this? Here's the video: Sorry if my post was a bit long-winded. I do that a lot here lol
thefooloftheyear
Too many people are too idealistic... Dont worry about what the world is doing, because they dont give a rats ass what you think or your position on it...Its like pissing in the ocean...Means absolutely nothing... Just be the best person you can be and treat the ones in your circle the way you want them to be treated and they will return the favor...If not, eliminate them from your life..Simple.. Author beautifulearth83
Good advice, I appreciate that. It just bothers me. I wish it didn't. Also, I noticed today when I was out and about, that I decided to just be myself. To be how I feel. Too often I'm forcing myself to put this smile on my face. And be happy. But I have so much inside that needs to be acknowledged. I think that I often go out into the world, afraid to be in a certain mood, or whatever, because I fear the reactions that it will get. But today, allowing myself to be in whatever mood I was in, speaking the way I felt suitable, my moments were of better quality. I don't understand it completely, but I think that people get a little crazy with the chasing happiness and getting excited about things. Are they really excited? Are they really enjoying this conversation? I have a lot of trouble with the duality. I'm not saying that I wish to flail my emotions around and call people jerks. I just mean that I can't help but want to keep it real in a sense. And as far as racism and other issues. I think so much of it is linked to survival. Nobody wants to go down with others. I don't know.

I don't know. I tend to be cynical of a lot of things in life..(see sig:laugh:).. I am not in a position to psycho analyze anyone, but allow me to make an evaluation based on what I am reading.... You are an intelligent and thoughful individual. The world. as a whole, is not on your level..So, you get frustrated at times..I know trhe feeling.. Ive always said that ignorant fools lead more happy lives because they never have these periods of deep introspection..I do exactly as you do..Its tortuous... All you can do is surround yourself with those that are aligned with yourself intellectually..Stop worrying about issues like racism, or world hunger or these types of things that, quite frankly, you cannot control..You can have a position on it and thats fine, but you arent bigger than the game... Just be the person you want to be.... I wish you well.. TFY Edited August 4, 2013 by thefooloftheyear

hppr
Racism sucks but it is a part of life you just have to learn to live with. I have worked construction jobs back in my early 20s where I was the only white guy on the job (everyone else was mexican or black). It was a company that specialized in concrete work namely retaining walls and flat work. The mexicans loved to sabotage my work and the black guys would complain to the boss that I was a racist etc. Also my tools got stolen regularly and they'd always write cracka or peckerwood on my car. Final straw was when I marked out some underground wiring and the mexican dude on the backhoe dug it up anyways. He said that I hadn't marked it properly, I had, but the mexican boss sided with him and told me to get out of there. I was given no severance pay and still have a small claims judgement against them.
soccerrprp
There is some terrible advice here. And, frankly, words of wisdom that helps fuel the very frustrations you feel. There are people telling you NOT to worry about racism, world hungry, etc. What rubbish! You should be concerned, not consumed about these realities. It seems to me that that is WHO YOU ARE. The problem isn't that too many people are too idealistic, the problem is not enough people are. The most idealistic people in history and present are the ones who move mountains in the face of reality and adversity. The people who tell you it's too big for you and so should just not worry and simply have a position on it is more rubbish. You cannot save the world, but you can certainly do your part, however small, to counter-act the people who make this world more complicated and dreary and that includes those who sit back providing excuses as to why you don't have to do anything but "think." The world is full of mean people. But some people choose to act and participate to make what little mark they can. Don't be complacent and act. You can do something...we all can.

I am going to remember your story and tell it the next time this subject comes up in conversation. But with a big difference -- I won't mention which race you or they were until the very end, just to see the looks on their faces! I hope you win your case.
soccerrprp
The world isn't full of mean people its full of people who are not tough and want the bar lowered. I would like to correct myself, yes, not FULL. But your comment is pure BS! So, essentially, what you're saying is that every person on this planet that is subject to racism, sexism, exploitation, abuse, etc. is weak in your eyes. That they all want the bar lowered instead of wanting the same prospect of hope, happiness, safety... If I've read you right, StoneColdMike, people like you are the reason why we, as a human race, continue to struggle with injustices in this world. You don't give a sh** about the plight of others as long as you are okay. What BS thing to say..

Sorry, pal, but you are living in a dreamworld... You said it yourself...You cannot save the world...FACT is she, you or I(or all three of us together)..could leave our families, jobs and worlds to combat racism, child abuse, animal cruelty, the baby seals or whatever and ,make as much of a difference as me pissing into the ocean. None... You see people need to ACCEPT that racism exists..It existed in the past and it will exist in the future. To say any different is like saying lions will start grazing the plains and leave the antelope alone..Its just not happening and you and I both know it...Be a compassionate and caring person to your fellow man regardless of race and thats all you owe this world and NOTHING else. The "so called" crusaders are nothing but reverse discriminatory, self righteous, profiteers like Al Sharpton...You want to be like him? So, at that point why spend what little time we have on this planet on that crusade? Do you enjoy doing things with ZERO expectation of outcome? I dont. In life, you realize what is truly important is your family, your kids, your close friends and allies. etc..Time is fleeting and precious. Throw your efforts at those things..At least there you are going to see tangible results for your efforts.. TFY

Throw your efforts at those things..At least there you are going to see tangible results for your efforts.. Here, here! Unfortunately, you don't see how being sensitive to many of society's ills DIRECTLY affect your beloved family, children, friends and allies. You're selfish and you would admit that. It's okay, there are some of us who will do or help do what you will not so that YOUR family, friends, children are less likely to live in a shi**y world.
Author beautifulearth83
There are a lot of mixed responses here, but what I think is most important is the element of compassion. What touched me the most about the video was the girl crying. I could see the real human being shining through her, something that we all possess. So, I don't think going into combat with racism and other such things is the answer. I think focusing on compassion and our innate humanness is. That said, I don't think that anybody should have to sacrifice what they have to help the world. If you are given blessings in life, it is best to make the best of them, just as anybody else would. There are people out there who could use the help, that would also not mind walking all over you. So, I do my best to make a contribution by paying attention to my thinking, and bringing it into my daily interaction. Treating people like the humans that they are and sending my love to the Universe, or whatever.

And I dont know you from Adam, but Id be willing to bet anything that I have donated more to charity than you have...Also. I frequently hire kids from underpriveleged circumstances.. One kid that I hired in January came here looking for a chance..I offered him that chance..If he stays on course, he is going to have a career..I regularly give cars to people that show a need(I am in that business). Oh, and we must not forget that I participated in the Big Brother program for years and taught classes at the county Jail on how to get a start in the types of businesses that I am in... Yep...I am such a selfish guy... Even with that I am not stupid enough to realize that racism and other ills are just going to happen..I cant control it or affect it just like the weather. Its unforunate, but it is what it is.. TFY
