What to buy/do/make for my girlfriend???

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have been thinking of what to buy/do/make for my LDR girlfriend for her birthday in October and for Christmas too, since it's a few months off.

I'm have never been great at thinking up presents for people, so I was wondering if anyone could help me out here a little and share some ideas with me, I would highly appreciate it!

So, about my girlfriend and I:

I live in Boston MA and my girlfriend lives in Ireland. I've been with her for about 8 months now, I've been to Ireland twice to see her, spent a totally of a month together in those 8 months. I talk to her everyday via online texting, Skype and gaming and we are still going strong.

I am not really the type to be all cheesy or romantic and neither is my girlfriend, I don't really express my feelings much for some reason, I've always have been like this, such as saying simple things like, "I miss you", even though I do miss her a lot, but I find it difficult to express myself to people, so I don't think I would get her a gift that expresses myself too much...well not yet anyways.

I did think to myself what does my girlfriend like, and I know she likes gaming, cute things, certain music bands and food. I sent her some chocolate once out of the blue to make her feel better since she was stressing out a lot a few months back and since she likes food, she was quite happy with it haha.

So, in conclusion, if anyone could help me out with gift ideas that isn't cheesy, can be romantic, but not too romantic and doesn't express too much feelings, maybe possible something she'll like, then that would be a huge help as I am terrible at this. She also has quite a lot of plush toys...so I'm not sure if she'll need anymore haha.

Also I am an arty person, so I can also craft up some things too and send to her, and if anyone has any cute ideas of what I can do when I go over to visit her too, that would be great too!

Thanks in advance!

My girlfriend and I write postcards to each other. Quite redundant as we speak to each other nearly every day on skype. But it nice to get something that is hand written and has thought in it.

I've bought her little random things. She likes cute things as well. So I've sent her a few plush toys which she loves (even though she has about a billion of them already). For her birthday last year I sent her a sterling silver charm bracelet with a couple of charms which I thought were meaningful to us both she really loves it and wears it everywhere.

Hi Vickie, well it's good if you're planning ahead and don't end up with something last minute that doesn't come from the heart. I'm not sure if I can help you. Are you a lesbian couple? I thought maybe you're a girl named Vickie.

Anyway, how old are you both? Also, what is your budget?

If she likes music, you could buy some cloud space and put music in there for her to listen to or match it to your iTunes, if you use it. You could even make a short movie with you in it...

If you are crafty, there are lots of things you could do... carved in wood, or other stuff...

If you want to buy stuff too, I think buying from a shop in Ireland is safer than from the US, because it'd skip the customs (I'm saying this, because they lost what he sent me last year). That's very annoying. And a friend sent me something from Amazon, and it got lost and he kept asking me if I had received anything. That'd be very stressful. Or please use a carrier like FedEx or DHL, not mail.

If you're going there and give it to her yourself, that's a plus.

I'm not the romantic type either, though I guess some of the things I like might be perceived as such.

Gaming, perhaps a new game that has an online multiplayer so you can run around together...

You could make her a couple of CD's, mixes of her favourite music...

Cute things can encompass a lot of stuff... When my bf and I were long distance for a while I would make him up a package once a month. I'd just see things he'd like while I was out and grab them. Then again, I'm good at shopping for people (provided I know them fairly well).

Examples... He likes football, I saw a little football kit that came with a mini book with facts, a small football, a goal post. It was cute, silly and fun. I'd fill a box full of stuff like that and write a nice letter.

If you guys spend a lot of time gaming together, I'd probably go to a used game store and buy some doubles of new games you thing you'd both enjoy.

Hey, there are some good ideas already, so thank you for your replies!

Yes we are a lesbian couple and both 23 years old.

I don't mind spending money on my girlfriend ever once in a while, since I don't see her much at all. If I was with her I'm sure i'll be spending way more than I do now, so budget isn't much of a problem, but of course not too ridiculous as I rather save up more money to go and visit her instead. So i'll just say maybe my budget is around $100 maybe.

I should probably write some cute letters to her every once in a while, but i'm also not that great at writing letters, it normally involves talking quite a bit about my feelings and such, which as I said, I don't tend to express it much in that sort of way, I just express it in a different way, i'm more of a jokey sort of person and she knows that I like/care and miss her without saying so. But maybe I should start off writing little notes to her instead of a letter when I send a package over to her.

As for gaming wise, we do both like playing games, but she is still in university studying, so I don't want her to get hooked on a game and not focusing on her studies, since she does procrastinate a lot without games anyways haha. So I'll wait until she finishes university, which is some next summer, before I start buying her more games.

If anyone else have more ideas, please feel free to share, it's helping me quite a lot reading these replies.

Thanks!
