you have to stop relying on others to do your stuff.

you have to own up to your actions.

Follow through with what you commit too.

do you live on your own yet? that will help too.

Set some goals for yourself. Then set a path to reach those goals. Talk to family/friends for inspiration on ways to reach the goals, then really think about your lifestyle and what is important to you and decide what you can do and what you can give up in order to reach those goals.

Write it down to help you sort it out. Example

Goal: New Car

When: 2007 -- Adjusted: 2008

How:

1) Need $5,000 down payment

2) Take-Home pay is $500/wk

3) Mandatory Expenditures

a) list your bills

4) Flexible Expenditures

a) list out what you can live without (cable TV, New computer games, PC upgrade, too many clothes, etc.)

5) Minimum amount you can put into savings each week: $$

6) Calculate how long before you have your $5,000 down payment saved up

7) Adjust the date you can realistically expect to buy the car (maybe you can get it sooner than expected)

Set your goals and develop your paths to achieve those goals. My daughter had a "matrix" for cleaning her room. She set her goals and then her path (or list) of what she needed to do and when to have her room cleaned up by a certain day. She listed things like "clean jewelry box" "sort socks" "clean top of closet" "clean bottom of closet" "take empty hangars out of closet" etc. just so she would have a starting point.

Sometimes things seem overwhelming and breaking them down into separate items makes it a LOT easier to achieve and achieving things on your own will help you become a more responsible person.

I don't work my a$$ off and I'm a homeowner, just built a brand new home. I'm a single mom, car paid off (yay!) and have no debt except for my home. And I don't consider that a debt, it only increases in value.

If I worked my a$$ off, I wouldn't be on LS everyday for eight straight. I worked hard to get where I am, but that's a different story.

Well what type of responsibilities are you looking for? start buying all your own stuff, books, clothes, food, gas, shampoo, etc....

if you live with your parents, tell them would like to contribute money to the household. Clean up after yourself, do your laundry, cook your meals.
