billybadass36
Okay, this happened on election day. I'd been thinking about taking the plunge with my girlfriend of nearly 8 months. We're both 29, and whatever. We just know that this is it for us...we've been with enough people and in enough relationships to know what we want in a partner, and we've pretty much told each other that we plan on spending the rest of our lives together...kids, house, etc. Everything's sort of falling into place. I'm taking her to Puerto Vallarta the week after Christmas, and was thinking about proposing to her then. Well, that's going to be a little tight for me because I'm coming into the cash to buy the ring like the week before Christmas, and I'm having it custom made so I don't think it'll be ready until we get back, but I digress.... ....anyway, I'm trying to figure out what size her ring finger is, and I spot her occasionally wearing this little ring that she bought at an art fair on her ring finger. I swiped it out of her jewelry box with the intention of having it sized that afternoon. Well I forgot...and I forgot the next day. Well, the day after that, my gf was in my car, and I ran into the store to pick up some things and she finds this ring of hers in my little armrest cubby hole thing. She asks me when I get back into the car what her ring was doing in there, and I said, "Hell if I know. I saw it in there the other day and figured you had taken it off one day last week or something." She put the ring on and wore it all that day, and at the end of the day it was placed back into her jewelry box. Okay, so I thought I'd covered myself decently. Well, on election day morning, like two days after she found the ring in my car, she "borrows" my car to go pick up some bagels for me to take with me to the polling place I was assigned to (I was one of John Kerry's legion of 10,000 lawyers). When I got into my car, there was this same ring lying in the cup holder. So, she put it on, left, was in my car, took it off again, and left it in the cupholder. I saw it and pretty much said, "Yep, she's onto me." So I went immediately to have it sized....5 1/2 if you all must know...and then when I picked her up from work later that evening to go have dinner I was like, "Hey, you left your ring in my car again." She said, "Oh yeah, I'm sorry it keeps pulling on my hair when I run my hands through my hair." I'm thinking she was onto me, figured out that I had stolen her ring for the purpose of having it sized, and then later replaced it so that I could accomplish my mission. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out another reason why her ring would mysteriously "reappear" in my car a day and a half after it was found there by her with no good reason for it being there in the first place. What do you guys think? Did she leave it there the second time on purpose?
savethedrama4allama
Maybe? Maybe Not? Heck if I know. if she is indeed on to you, would that change your proposal timing/method?

Author billybadass36
Yeah, that's what I thought. There actually wasn't a doubt in my mind that she left it there the second time on purpose. I don't know why she would put it back there on purpose, though. I mean, by doing that she's pretty much telling me that she knows that I took it to get her ring size. Now the whole surprise is ruined. Well, that's okay. Not that it was going to be a huge surprise anyway given the conversations we've been having. Oh well. Nothing's perfect. I think it's sort of cute that after she found it and then wore it all day, it probably dawned on her what it was doing in my car and then had to contrive some reason to get into my car to leave it there for me again. We are some kind of weird, no?
tanbark813
Well, personally, I'm not convinced that she's onto you, but we males are typically horrible at picking up subtle clues. And you would know best being in your position, of course. But even if she does know what's going on, I think it's really cool of her to not say she knows and to just play along instead. I think that's awesome. Plus, she doesn't know when you're going to ask so it will still be somewhat of a surprise. And bottom line, if you both think so highly of each other, then I'm sure she'll be stoked when you finally ask, surprise or not.
tiki
You'd be surprised at what us females play along at. I can usually see it coming from a miiiiiile away.
