Cupcake
I'm just curious. Can anyone tell me what goes on in a typical bath house? Are they used for men only? Is the name 'bath house' a code name for something else? Any info about bath houses would be helpful. Thanks!!
niko1999
I think a bath house is like a pool house.
moimeme
Last I heard, a 'bath house' is a place where gay men go to find sex. Lots of sex. Sex with lots. Yes, it's men only.
Author Cupcake
Really !!?? I heard they were like massuse parlors where people could go to relax. And I thought sex in that type of place was illegal.
tokyo
They have bath houses in China and Japan. A friend of mine is in China and he said they have bath houses, because some appartments don´t have any bath rooms. In Japan it seems you have them for fun. In Arabic countries they used to have bath houses which were separated for men and women. I think they are called "hammam". I don´t know of what kind of bath houses you are talking of, but I don´t think that in the countries I mentioned before it involved sex.
Author Cupcake
I'm talking about bath houses here, in America. Most of our houses have bathrooms. But I recently overheard a conversation between two of my co-workers. They were talking about bath house locations and which were the best. They were males. And they were being all private about it, like the way some guys get excited about strip clubs. Only they were saying "bath house." And one guy agreed to show the other guy where a great bath house was located.

Author Cupcake
If moimeme is right, then I have some juicy gossip to share with my other co-workers!! These two guys are like the biggest womanizers in our city, more less our office. No one would ever expect them to be gay, or even bi-sexual. Wow !!
moimeme
Japanese and Chinese baths are very different. They are supposed to be sex-free.
Sukotto
Erm sometimes Bath Houses are just full of female prostitues, well technically its private rooms with female staff who just so happen to provide extra services.
Author Cupcake
Could they really be full of female prostitutes? I did some research on the internet and bath houses were origianally for Greek men, and in some places, they separate the men and the women. But that seems to be totally different than what these two men were referring to. There seems to also be a great deal of Gay Bath Houses on the internet as well. But they usually specify. I didn't find anything in reference to female prostitutes. That's really interesting. I don't know.....
immoralist
The baths in urban centers are places where Gay men rent a room with a cot, and walk the common areas with just a towel wrapped around themselves. If they find someone they "like," they go to the rented room and have sex. In any given night one guy, depending upon his age, equipment and general attractiveness can have up to 10-15 sex partners. Read "And the Band Played On," which details the tremendous early opposition to closing the baths, for public health reasons, although those places were ground zero for HIV infection. Many Gays considered going to the baths a civil right, which the public health inspectors were violating by closing down these sex palaces. The good old days...

immoralist
Yeah, back in the 70's and early 80's it was, in certain cities, one huge sex party for many Gay men. Randy Shilts's excellent book about that time, "And the Band Played On," describes, in some detail, the bath house scene in places like San Francisco during that "Golden Era" of promiscuous, unprotected sex. When the AIDS epidemic hit like a tsunami, it wasn't just the Reaganites who balked at recognizing the linkage between anal sex and HIV/AIDS. Many bath house owners, from profit concerns, and their patrons, under a misguided sense of "Gay Rights" and the joy of promiscuous sex, fought tooth-and-nail against efforts by city governments and public health inspectors to shut down or regulate the Baths. It's usually about money or sex and, in this case, it was about both. Most of the boys who played back then in the Baths are now dead. (As is Mr. Shilts who succumbed to AIDS a number of years ago.) The end of an era...
tokyo
The number is so - excessive? I wonder if it´s normal that I stillget surprised with this kind of things... Maybe I´ll get this book. Hopefully the cover is ok, I don´t want to have to wrap it in something when I read it in public.
immoralist
The book was serious advocacy journalism. Shilts criticized virtually everyone--politicians, Gay activists, bureaucrats--for acting irresponsibly when first confronted with the AIDS pandemic. The only "heros" were a few CDC scientists who realized, as a result of their investigations, that AIDS was contracted sexually. At least initially, CDC warnings were ignored or downplayed by straight politicians who just didn't care and by Gays who were to busy having sex to care. HBO did a special based on the book starring Mathew Modine as the prophet-scientist.
Love2share
I live in the North East. And people around here refer to bath houses as massage parlors where men or women can go. If you're willing to pay more, you can have a "happy ending" which is a sexual massage that usually brings you to an orgasm. At least that's what I've heard.
