KatZee
Who here has ever received or read cards for themselves? I myself have always been interested in Tarot and just last week purchased a second deck of cards that seems to have connected with me VERY well. I just did a reading based on something I wanted to know, and every single card tied into each other, and answered that question very directly. I actually have the cards still laying out because I'm still in shock as to what they say, in the right positions and everything.
youngnlove89
Yes, I believe in them and have my own deck. The readings come true for me. And it's creepy how accurate they are. I have the Rider Waite deck. A lot of people don't believe them, but I do.
CarrieT
Been doing it for almost four decades, have attended Tarot conferences, make Tarot jewelry, and know several Tarot deck authors. Now, I just do a single spread once a year - on New Year's - twelve cards, one for each month. Shocking how accurate they have been.

Now, I just do a single spread once a year - on New Year's - twelve cards, one for each month. Shocking how accurate they have been. Now I wonder if I would know you elsewhere, although I haven't spent much time there this year (tarot forum). I have a lot of decks, but am out of practice. A few readings have shocked me, but I put down the cards because they were only confirming bad things, or nothing was changing.

Author KatZee
My new deck is The Gilded Tarot. I find that the artwork on them are beautiful and really call to me over the standard Rider Waite deck. I've done a few readings with them now and they are scarily accurate. I guess it helps that I slept with them a couple times, I saged them, and I bought them their own little wooden box house with 2 quartz crystals tucked in with them.
CarrieT
In the four+ decades I've been working with them, I have found that I generally acquire a "new" deck with the onset of each major relationship I am in... During my teens, it was the Rider Waite deck. With my marriage, the Dali deck. While I was living with the cross-dresser, I built up a HUGE collection (100+ decks) and don't remember any specific one I used. I then lived eleven years with an occultist who used the Crowley deck, but the Aquarian deck worked best for me. I mostly use an Alchemical deck now and am unlikely to change again. I received the Alchemical Renewed deck for my birthday, last year. I had wanted it four years ago, and then it went out of print. Katzee, I bought my mother the Gilded, five years ago (already - sheesh), and she loved it, but hardly ever uses it. I bought her another Ciro deck, can't remember what it was called - four years ago (?), but she hasn't used that one much, either. We were supposed to learn and give readings to each other for practice. I started out with the Oracle Tarot, Druidcraft, and Universal Waite, eight years ago.
CarrieT
I received the Alchemical Renewed deck for my birthday, last year. I had wanted it four years ago, and then it went out of print. I gotta admit, I don't think I realized it was "renewed" and a quick google search showed how they changed the Lovers which I don't particularly care for.

With how fast I've connected to my new Gilded deck I don't feel I am going to switch decks any time soon. Is there a particular reason you and CarrieT have so many decks? CarrieT you said it was because you got a new one for every relationship... did you feel your deck was working less when you went through changes in your life? This is only my second tarot deck. The Rider Waite really didn't do much for me, it was OK but it wasn't a connection like with my Gilded. I also have a set of oracle cards by Doreen Virtue and I personally don't like them at allllll. CarrieT
Is there a particular reason you and CarrieT have so many decks? In the beginning, I started collecting because - as an artist - I was drawn to the physical artistry of certain decks. Also, I have an occult-based jewelry business and have made specific, talismanic pieces with images from various decks. CarrieT you said it was because you got a new one for every relationship... did you feel your deck was working less when you went through changes in your life? The decks I was using during long-term relationships became rather imbued with specific sensations and emotions. Even now, when I look at the particular decks I mentioned, I am brought back to memories and images that were indicative of those past relationships. Akin to having shared memories with "our song," a particular little black dress, or some particular food, the decks were too reminiscent of those specific relationships. Easier to just start a-fresh.

CarrieT
How does everyone feel about oracle cards? They do nothing for me because they are a "new" invention. I believe the Tarot works for me because it is more "ancient" and I am tapping into currents that have existed for centuries.

Anela
How does everyone feel about oracle cards? I like them My first set was a deck and book - angel cards, by Angela Mcgerr. My favourite is the Fairies Oracle, and a set of tea leaf cards.

melell
Oracles and tarots I think are great. I have been to a psychic, and online one, I return to them sometimes. I never take the readings too seriously at the time, but they have been spot on. I did phil at uni, logic specifically, and they often used psychics as an example of pseudoscience, and ripped it to pieces. If it wasn't for this lady, I would still be a major skeptic. She was spot on. Names, dates, everything.

melell
I am not entirely sure, but I think that these people read energies etc, and they are given words, images and so on, but when using tarots they are guided so to speak. There are loads of theories, the cards meanings can often be very vague, so I do doubt them unless they are used by someone who is actually psychic. I mean, it is like mysticism, it can't be explained, therefore I think there are many reasons to dismiss them. And personal testimony as to how they work simply isn't sufficient evidence. Psychics on the other hand, there is a bit more there, more reason to believe in them because the real ones can be very specific, so they are hard to deny.
melell
As for the 'evil' question, I really don't think they are. Pre Christian relgion paganism was everyone, and I don't feel that these people were all evil, I think that if there is a god, they were close to that same god, just different labels. Who knows. When I was in school, my friends were all into this stuff, and it seemed so fun and harmless. But now, I think I actually believe in a lot of it, whereas before it was just kind of a game. Christians believe in communications with the spiritual world; communications with God, angels, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The bible is filled with Prophets, which seems to appear similar to the purpose of Tarot (divination, or providing a picture into the future). But I think people need to be so careful with this stuff!! I mean, there are a lot of people who know a whole lot about more spiritual matters, who think that these types of communications come from a darker realm. Take it, or leave it, but there are warnings over and over in the bible that "mediums and fortune-tellers" are working with an unholy power. Just please be careful.
