How are the oils in your diet?

One of my buddies from massage school (a past incarnation when I was able to handle rubbing on hairy stinky people) swore by olive oil. She cuts her lotions with it, says it's easier for skin to absorb. I used olive oil for massage a few times and didn't like it because the skin seems to just suck it up, and I noticed when I used Body Butter and cocoa butter that it took forever for the skin to absorb, which is great for massage but not to moisturize.

Also you can use olive oil for a hot oil treatment and it leaves hair super silky.

I swear by carmex for lips especially at bedtime, use lotion directly after washing hands/taking a shower, even if they're still damp, and I eat my salads wtih a dash of olive oil as it seems to help.

Also I don't know if your hair is a problem but you can get deep hair conditioning treatments at the salon that work wonders.

You've probably tried all that but its all I've got!

Is it possible you're allergic to something? All of the sudden I got very dry, cracked lips (in the corners) a few months ago and discovered I must be allergic to a new variety of toothpaste I tried.

that could be llama....my nose has been running forever, and i get really itchy, like after you get a hair cut and the hairs are in your shirt....that is what it feels like :( I just figured it was dryness...but it could be something else too.

I did just move back into my parents house, so i am using some different detergents, soaps, tooth pastes.

well what ever it is, i wish it would go away!!!!

I used to live in Cowgary - dry doesn't begin to describe it. I'd wake up in the middle of the night itching furiously and end up bruised from scratching.

Aveeno makes collodial oatmeal bath and skin products that are good for dry skin. You have to moisturize while you're still damp to keep the water in. And if you're getting itchy, you may even need antihistamines - it was the only thing that worked for me sometimes. Thank God I've moved to a place where moss actually grows.

I understand that Shania Twain had great success with 'bag balm'. That would be an ointment that farmers spread on cow udders. I kid you not. Apparently it works wonders on dry skin.

in addition to a good moisturiser and plenty of water you need to tackle things from the inside too!

if you drink plenty of water that's a start but you should take some supplements too - vitamin E is great for skin, as is evening primrose and zinc, also try to up your intake of omega 3 oils found in oily fish such as salmon and mackrel, walnuts, leafy green vegetables.

Also, be careful of the products you use to bathe and wash your face with since many can be harsh and drying - i tend to use Khiels gentle non foaming cleanser.

this might be a vitamin B deficiency, i think its riboflavin. i get it when i am really stressed and your body uses it like noones business in stressful circumstances

Tattoometoe, get some Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, if you put it on in quite a thick layer before you go to sleep all over your face & neck your skin feels amazing the next day. But dont do it if you have 'company', it makes you look like you slithered into a vat of chip lard when its fresh on.

My skin gets dry int he wonter, hair is dry, eyes are itchy.

2 things will make ALL the difference.

1) Take a vitamin E capsule. 400 mg twice a day

2) get a humidifier for home ESPECIALLY if you have a dry heat.

Actually, a study just came out saying that more than 200g of Vitamin E a day is not good for you.

Yeah. I have lots of allergies to things which gives me bad skin. A nutritionist put me on all sorts of oils and vitamins. But slathering Olive oil on my skin has really worked wonders. Probably should do it about twice a day.

Take a multivitamin daily and alot of Vitamin C as well. B12 around and during your menstral cycle, drink lots of water...use warm water instead of HOT when washing your hands throughout the day. Drink lots of water!!

Also I use a body wash in the shower in the winter that has moistener in it, makes my skin feel better. I use Jergins extra strong cream for my hands and body. My hands just get real bad sometimes...Yuk!

I hate winter in Canada.

I have a question as well on the same subject for any mid west girls here. I was in MO in october and on the the 4th day, I woke up wth severly dry and chapped face and lips, and nothing worked to relieve it. I would exfoliate and use my good Lancome moisturizer and in an hour it would be back. It was awful, I had to use extra foundation just to even out my skin tone, and I usually just use a small amount, I felt like I was wearing a mask!!

My face cleared up immediatley when I came home to CA. I did spend every day on the back porch getting some sun, but I can't imagine that did it, it was slightly windy, but not really bad. I don't know what caused it.

Problem: I am planning another trip in Jan, but I can't have that happen again. Any suggestions?

OMG! Someone else familiar with this! We used Bag Balm (little green tin with red clover and a cow-face on the lid) on our goats and cows. It's fantastic and works on people-skin too! That stuff has been around simply forever!

Use Mane & Tail for hair -- that is great too! (its for horses, but adds texture, strength and body to people hair)

Oatmeal baths too! I get dry skin when it gets cold and an oatmeal bath with baby-oil works wonders! After every shower I run in baby-oil too. Toweling off removes the excess, but skin stays soft.

HMMM.........coulda just been different amounts of air polution/ diferent types..or different chemicals used to treat the water?

i Did find out why i was itching sooo bad though! i had started using a down comforter again and all thesse feathers where popping out bugging my eyes and nose. and i would only need to sit on my bed and my legs would start itching. so i got rid of the comforter, tried to get all the feathers and washed all my sheets. ahhhhhh....no more itching like crazy!

i do still have some dry skin, but it is nothing like it was with the feathers...plus i bought a humidifier for the office.

My boyfriend and I both use the Aveeno body wash and lotion...as of right now, our skin is silky smooth. The real test will come with the Nebraska winter.......I HATE SNOW!
