This means, if you read the entire verse, that there IS condemnation for those who walk in the flesh (ie, pursuing worldly endeavors and desires). Many people just take that verse as a blanket statement for any person who has ever "prayed the prayer" to Jesus. This isn't true. Jesus made it clear that, even among those who claim to follow him, some are of the world/flesh, and some are of the spirit. The former will be condemned; the later will not be. This verse is consistent with Galatians 6:8: "Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. I think so, yes. What I find interesting is that spiritual Christians who don't follow the world's system are often labelled as "radical"--even by fellow Christians! The church tends to praise those who are just like the rest of society. Additionally, we are given the warning of not being too heavenly-minded lest we be no earthly use. But, as CS Lewis said, when you focus on earth, you not only miss heaven, but you don't even get earth as you expected to; yet if you shoot for heaven, you not only get heaven (through the grace if God) but you get earth thrown in as well. I agree with this completely. Many times my "heavenly mindedness" was actually from the soulish realm- sometimes we think we're heavenly minded when in fact it is "self" in operation. God is clear concerning certain matters and to deviate from that is flesh. IMO the best scripture to keep one balanced is, we are in the world, but not of the world- to understand that God is in control. I forget most of the time that God is in control and really doesn't need my "help", lol if He wants me to act, He'll speak up and lead.
