So i've always been overweight...since i can remember..but FINALLY lost over 40 lbs (still in the process of toning up) and i was wondering with my current measurements, what body shape do i have?

I'm 5'5 1/2 159 lbs. Shoulders-40 in. Waist-29 in. Hips-43 in.

Thank you!

lol SORRY for not including that! but i am a WOMAN!

That's why I asked -- you mentioned shoulders which is something men usually measure. And why Eternal Sunshine is asking about your bust...

Personally, it sounds like you might be hourglass-shaped, but it will depend on your bust...

Cup size would help.

Personally, I am shaped very similarly, but I am 43x30x42 with GG cups. I struggle with weight and being 5'4", have ballooned as high as 225 but am happiest between 140 and 150. The last time I was in the 130s, I looked like an anorexic Barbie Doll - not a good look for me...

But I describe myself as Zaftig.

Thanks for your reply (: i included shoulder measurements only because i think it makes a difference with body shapes..(forgot to mention bust measurements lol) but my bust is 38 inches...bra size 34D.

YES @ 5'4'' i would agree with the anorexic barbie doll look not being a good one esp when you have bigger boobs.

You have a military press body.... that is you weigh about what I overhead shoulder press (military press) at the gym. Probably 5 sets of 5 reps :p

But more seriouslly according to this one link below you are "slender and healthy"

Waist To Height Ratio Calculator

But your curves are kickin' .....

I'm a weight lifter (mostly) so I think the BMI is rubbish as well.

The best way is to just get a cheap fat caliper and measure 3 spots and write down the number. Do that three times and average out the numbers in those 3 spots. Do this every week in the morning naked. If the numbers decrease, fat deposits are decreasing. Simple.

Fat percentage, BMI, weight. None of that matters. Just find a way to track the progress.

That's a BMI calculator. Most fitness people and doctors think it's rubbish, including me. Just look in the mirror. You will be just as accurate as a BMI calculator.

No its not. It is a height to waist ratio calculator. This calculation has been shown to be more accurate view of health than BMI and is the newer way to look at things. The link does NOT ask for your weight. The following is the text from that site

Body mass index (BMI) is an index widely used to define obesity. BMI does not always accurately indicate the degree of fatness. The degree of central fat distribution may be more closely tied to metabolic risks than BMI. Measurement of the degree of central fat distribution thus appears to be important for the early detection of subsequent health risks, even among those of normal weight. Waist-to-height ratio (W/Ht) corresponds better to metabolic risk than BMI.

Sorry, I spotted "BMI" in the text and stopped reading. I still think it's rubbish. I know when I am fat by looking in the mirror or using a tape measure. I don't need to justify weight gain with "Oh, but this calculator says I'm not fat so I will ignore the big rip in the seat of my jeans."

Without seeing you in person I can't really tell you. Some girls have a really stout build for their size and will be 130-140lbs at 5'5 and super fit, if you have broad shoulders then that could be your body type.
