Anyone expecting a CHristmas proposal?

Recommended Posts

Is anyone out there expecting a Christmas proposal? If so, what makes you think he is going to pop the question? Is it his behaviour or is it just a 'gut ' feeling.? WOuld you say 'yes' if he did?

plan engagements. They shop for a ring, discuss details of a wedding/marriage to come. They assume engagement/proposal will come during the holidays-ie T-Day, X-mas, Channakah, New Year's Eve, or sometime in between. The "Holidays" and Valentine's Day are the biggest times to get engaged. Some are planned, therefore expected. Some are suprises.

If you think you are getting engaged, maybe you are. Although, he might want to make it a suprise!

I'm getting engaged the week of xmas.....well, at least that's what HE says anyway. Oh, and his sister too.

I've had my ring finger sized and we've done the whole going to the jewlery stores looking for the "style" that fits me best because well, I'm not really that into jewlery...but this ring, oh baby, you betcha I'm gonna wear it.

The only issue I have is that I've always wanted my "ring" to be a diamond ring....he says he's getting me a pearl...so hopefully I talked him into going w/ a pearl and some diamonds together........C O M M U N I C A T I O N.....now, only if he listens :)

it was his idea. :D

i was like "isn't it a little soon to be looking at these?" and he said "it's never too soon to know what you like."

A word from another fellow-female online...

Me and many women I know have all experienced this as well.

All of us women have experienced our bf, fiances, husbands telling us what a memorable suprise they have for us on x-mas/holiday/b-day. They think it's wonderful, but it turns out to be nothing thrilling. A nice present and a thoughtful gesture, but not what you expect. When my sister was dating her (now) husband, for their first x-mas, he told her he was giving her the most memorable gift. Everyday before x-mas, he would rave about how wonderful and special this gift would be and how it would bring tears to her eyes (she hardly ever cries...she more the "man" of the relationship!). WIth that in mind, my sister couldn't believe what his gift may be. She thought he was going to bring my grandmother back from the dead or something! X-mas came, and he wound up getting her a "ladybug braclet" ( my sister is a fan of ladybugs, but not enough to cry over it). She liked the bracelet, and was appreciative, but no tears!!!

My fiance did a similar thing 3 years ago when he told me how he had a wonderful suprise that involved jewlery. I thought he was getting me an e-ring! Needless to say I was younger and still in college, so I was a little scared of how paying for a wedding would work out....he wound up taking me to a haunted house and gave me the sterling silver necklace he got me months earlier which had broke.

A suprise, thoughtful, and indeed a nice gesture by these men, but not exactly what you think. Men are different from women. My point is, don't get too excited over what he said. You might be let down and in return, this wil hurt him when he sees how "underwhelmed" (a word I invented!) you are with your gift under the x-mas tree. It may very well be what you think, but don't count on it. That will probably happen when you least expect it. You may get engaged, but don't get your hopes up. You'll wind up feeling rejected and embarassed, and he'll feel bad. Hang in there and don't expect too much! Good luck!

Thanks for your post. Yes you are probably right. But you know I have my hopes up and I am feeling so silly about the whole thing. Its not like me to be emotional about stuff but I am about this.

I agree he might have a gift that is just a normal gift orworse!!!!! I am trying to forget about it as I know if I build myself up about this it will ruin Christmas which would be silly and petty of me.

SO obviously at some stage your b/f proposed! WHen and how did he?

But then one day, we were out walking, and he just turned into the jeweler's. We walked in, and he told me to pick the one I wanted. I decided to test his resolve, and selected the best one in the store. He paled a bit, but he proposed and put it on my finger right there in the store, and now he's more proud of it than I am!

Not the most intimate proposal, but nice!

I know for a fact I'm getting a ring (I will however, be greatly disappointed if he chickens out, which I know he won't)....

We've been to several jewlers and looked ONLY at engagement rings and have had my ring sized pretty much every time we're there....hopefully he'll remember I'm a 5 1/2 that way I can wear it everyday thereafter instead of having to get it sized.....

It was kind of weird. He took me out on a Friday night for a quick drink (he had to go to his second job right after). After we left the bar, while he was driving me home on the parkway, he started digging in his pocket (we had picked the ring out a few months beforehand). I was wondering what the hell he was doing. Then suddenly I saw the rock gleaming in the light. I knew what was going on...

He held my hand up and said, "So, what do you say we get hitched?". I was stunned. Then he repeated, "Will you marry me?" and I said yes. He slipped the ring on my finger and two months after that we set a date for June 17th, 2006. We have the church and hall booked (I am from LI so these things book a year to a year-in-a-half in advnace believe it or not!).

One other thing, if he does propose on x-mas or another time, I will also tell you not to expect "the movie scene" proposal, with clowns dancing, fireworks, an airplane sky spelling "Will you marry me" with your night and shining armor on one knee with a blue box in one hand and a roses in the other. Sad to say many women I know did not recieve such a memorable proposal. Not to say all don't, because I do know a few women who's husbands proposed wonderfully. But many of my friends were disappointed at the way their husbands proposed.

Men either just want to spend the rest of their life with you or they don't. They don't have fantasies of clowns dancing with your Tiffany ring waiting for you to answer yes! LOL!

LOL.....no fairy tale proposal expected here.

I'm actually expecting the: "hey babe, want you to spend the rest of your life with me...here's your ring"....of course, he WILL be on his knee when he says this (tries not to die laughing cuz she knows its probably true)

I'm probably going to bite the bullet after Christmas. My birthday is in early January, and I'm thinking about New Years proposal. We will have been together over 8 months at that point. Soon? Yeah, but when you know, you know - ya know? On my b-day, we'll both be 29. I really don't have the coin to drop on the diamond I really want for her, but I'm doing the best I can. I want something that will "WOW" her friends. They're already insanely jealous of her because she's in this wonderful relationship (they're mostly a band of dysfunctional spinsters in waiting) and they're likewise insanely jealous that she's got this great "catch" which is yours truly. The thing that would totally ice the cake is to get her a rock that will piss them off totally. How about some opinions? Would you ladies like the sparkliest, most perfect rock your man can afford or would you rather sacrifice a bit on quality for as big a stone as he can afford as long as it's not obviously "yellow" in color? Here's my deal: I can either get her an eye-clean super-ideal round brilliant cut 1ct in the G-H color range or I can for the same money get an eye-clean more average cut 1.3-1.5 ct in the I-J color range. All things being equal, I think most women would opt for bigger over more brilliant, but that's just me. Oh, and it's going in a heavy platinum band with side stones. Such a dilemma, eh?

This is GREAT. I just got off the phone with her roommate. I just enlisted her to surreptitiously find out all kinds of info for me. It didn't even occur to me that my g/f might prefer a different shape than a round. But then, I just tried to call her back, and her phone's busy, so roommate is off calling someone else now....hmmmm??? Should I have trusted the roommate to keep mum? I have my doubts. Women.....can't live with 'em...pass the beer nuts.

You know what a really nice stone shape is that many women seem to like?

It's called "Princess-cut". It has the same cut as a round stone, but the shape is actually square. It's very elegant really.

Unless, she likes "fancy shapes" such as pear shaped, and marquis.

Why don't you just take her shopping? Pretend you are looking at something else to buy her for xmas, like a necklace or a bracelet. Then sort of, work your way over to the "bridal" section where the e-rings are and pick something you think she'd like and see her response. If she doesn't like it, you may have to "feel it out" more until she finds something that appeals to her.

Anyway, good luck with your proposal. Aside from the ring, do you have any ideas in mind of how you are proposing marriage to her?

You seem like one of the only guys I know that get into this. My fiance didn't put any thought whatsoever in his proposal to me, nor the ring for that matter.

See, I want the proposal to be a surprise and a big deal. I think the ring is a big deal because it's something that the bride-to-be and eventually my wife will display for the rest of her life that is a direct, public statement that I'm making to the rest of the world that "this wonderful, sexy, intelligent woman is TAKEN and the lucky bastard whose heart belongs to her is tasteful, stylish, and financially stable, so don't even think about it". It is and should be a big deal to me.

Well, consider yourself a special man. Seldom men would care to think this way at all, nor would they take the time out to make their proposal perfect. You sound like a nice guy and I'm sure your good looking. You BOTH sound like a nice couple. Post your wedding & engagement pics on here.

To be honest with you, not all men who are engaged are financially stable or even make a living. You both sound like a good catch and seems (from what you tell us) you both are truly in love, so neither of you should worry about presenting a "taken" symbol to the world.

Check your pm's

I will give you some tips on rings to buy for your lady.

Hmmm. not for christmas, but I think very soon. I went to the mall with my best friend the other day, and we went into jewlery stores(she was looking for earrings), and Justin was with us, and when we walked past diamond rings, in EVERY jewelery store we stopped in, he didnt just glance, he actually STOPPED, bent over the counter, and LOOKED. And apparently my freind got "hints" from him that he is considering it. Christmas? Yeah, it wiould be nice, and I wont lie when I say Im hoping for christmas, but I imagine, knowing it, it will be St. Patricks day or something :D

Debating about asking on Christams eve here. I picked up the ring a couple days ago. I chose a smaller flawless gia certified diamond over a bigger lesser quality one. It fits my style better...hope she feels the same!
