How much weight must be lost for tight pants to fit comfortably again?

Recommended Posts

A few months ago I went into a binge eating period (vacation, celebrations, extra time at home had me bored eating)

anyway, I'm not sure how much weight I've gained but my pants are super tight now....how much weight must I lose for them to be loose again?

I"m a medium. I've lost 10 lbs and still tight.

That question is impossible for us to answer accurately without a particular size, but getting back into a healthy eating+activity mode after indulging, slacking or generally going on vacation :D is hard.

All I can say is keep trying and best of luck!

How much did you gain?

Also, as we age, it takes more than dieting to keep the waistline trim. Exercise keeps things toned and shapely, and helps us fit back into those tight pants.

I want to say I gained about 15 lbs. Not sure.

This past week I did a cleansing diet and lost about 12....I'd say 5-10 more to go is a reasonable goal. I didn't hit the gym, because it was such a low calorie diet that I was afraid of passing out or something. The diet is over today. So tomorrow I will start the toning process.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments!

You need to eat properly and hit the gym, do weights, interval training, abs work etc. Otherwise you'll be just the same shape albeit slightly less flabby.

Quick weight loss is never the answer and all you are really losing is likely water weight, which isnt "real"....And ultra low cal diets are a sham..Your body will go into starvation mode and you will stall. Or you will lose lean muscle mass, which isnt desirable.

I agree with the last poster...The scale doesnt tell the whole story..Usually never does. Implement a fitness and eating routine that will shed weight gradually, gain/tone muscle and you will be pleased with the results.

Good luck

Interestingly enough, I was wondering about this same thing about a month ago. I am not heavy but let me call a spade a spade, I put on some weight over the past few months because I was traveling for work and then went on vacation. Let's just say it was an eating frenzy. I work out everyday when I am in town however for this period of time I was less than motivated. And by the end of September, I could barely button my jeans! Yes, little piggy me. :) Let me tell you .. the weight comes on FAST. I had gained 10 pounds in just about 4 weeks. I have almost lost the 10 and my jeans are starting to fit me a bit more comfortably, but I'm not there yet. I think as we get older (as least for me) I tend to gain weight around my mid-section (and I NEVER had a stomach!). It's a constant struggle. Just keep on going .. you'll get there. Have a great weekend!

It totally depends. I've had sizes where 5 lbs dropped me a full size but at another point it took 15 lbs. I think it's because at different weight levels I dropped weight differently (at one point it was mostly my stomach, at another it was more of an all-over loss). Also, I think pant sizes might be unevenly applied depending on where you're at (well, and the cut of the pant, of course...I'm pair shaped, so I'm a size 8 pant, but only a size 6 dress. And in some stores/cuts, I wear a 10. Totally depends.)

well I did the cleanse to jump start the weight loss. The weight I'm at now is not my norm, so I don't see it as losing weight, I see it as going back to normal. I do workout/eat healthy and all but this summer was out of control, lol. I needed that cleanse to retrain my body to not eating out/drinking in large quantities every weekend. At home I mostly eat fruits, vegetables, eggs, cereal, not a fried food person and I work out regularly but on vacations I wasn't working out.
