HopeInLove
Hi all, please let me know what you think of this: my now ex-bf and I broke up in May after being together for almost a year. We are both in our early twenties. The reason for the breakup was because he thought the only way we could stay together was to get married, and I said I was too young. He is in the military and was getting transfered overseas. I got scared to get married so quickly and I think he was hurt when I turned him down. Anyways, he was sent overseas (not Iraq, thank God), and I heard he got engaged to someone he met in the service over there. I was really crushed, and regretted staying with him. After I told him that I couldn't marry him, he broke off all contact and left without even saying goodbye, and he didn't e-mail, write, call or stay in contact with me at all. I really thought I'd never see him or hear from him again. So last week I got a card from him in the mail, of course now I have his address. All he wrote was that he wished me the best and hoped that I was doing well. What does that mean? I mean, does he want to be friends or is he "testing the waters" so to speak? My male friends think that no guy, esp. an ex, just writes a card to be nice. Maybe he misses me as much as I miss him and wants a second chance? What should I do? I don't even know if he is still engaged. Sorry if this is confusing, but I am.
LucreziaBorgia
I wouldn't read too much into it. It sounds like the sort of generic thing you send to someone for closure. Hypothetically, if he was missing you really badly, wouldn't he have called instead of sending a fairly impersonal card? As for what to do next, nothing says you can't send him a short friendly greeting card back. Tell him what you are doing these days, and that you are glad to hear from him. I wouldn't do the 'I love you and I miss you' thing until you have some solid information. Just be friendly and see what happens. Maybe then you'll hear back from him and find out what his deal is and take it from there.
