kiwi29f
Thanksgiving is over and I've gotten into the Christmas spirit I was just wondering what some of your christmas traditions are. Since my husband and I have been married we have been spending Christmas eve with his parents and we get up & open presents while listening to Christmas music and my mother-in-Law and I make the men & children breakfast and bake cookies. Its really fun. The weekend before Christmas my husbands side of the family all get together and do a gift exchange game. He has a huge family, 7 aunts and uncles & thats not including their spouses and children and their parents. We make finger foods and take it over to one of our houses & we all buy the children something of course but in addition we all buy one gift, it has to be under $20 and has to be a gift for the same sex as yourself or a non gender gift. We put all the gifts in the middle of the floor & we draw numbers. Whoever is has #1 goes first & picks a present then whoever is after that they can either pick another present or "steal" the previos persons gift and so on. We all really enjoy this. They've been doing this for 20+ years. So what are some of your family christmas traditions??
Moose
You've just explained our Christmas tradition down to a tee......you're not from here are you? We play the dirty Santa guy as well. Pretty small world!
HokeyReligions
Two years ago I changed our tradition. I stopped decorating, except for a small (4') tree in my mom's room. It took me about 15 minutes to put it up, spread the branches and put a few decorations on it. Three or four years ago we bought a pretty 7' tree and got rid of our big 10' tree. I loved the tree, it was beautiful. The house looked so nice! It took all of Thanksgiving weekend to decorate the house. Then last year I got to thinking about it (I was already feeling the effects of the cancer and didn't realize it then) and I just couldn't muster the energy to do it all. So we got the little tree in my mom's room and celebrated in there. So that is now our tradition -- 20 minutes is all I'll allow for decorating -- which means the little tree! We will still each open one gift on x-mas eve and the rest on x-mas day. All my shopping is done! It's been done for a while -- but I went garage-sailing on Saturday and picked up a couple of lamps (just like new) and a pretty set of kitchen canisters (had to cost at leat $50 new) for $8.50. Mom needs lamps in her room and these are PERFECT! I'm going to recover the shades with the fabric I made her curtains from--I have plenty left over.
Author kiwi29f
The dirty Santa guy, what is this? I haven't hardly started my Christmas shopping yet, I always seems to wait til the last minute, not meaning to but thats how it always seems to work out. I get all my decorating done but thats it. I've helped my grandmother decorate her home for Christams this year. (She is also fighting breast cancer right now & is our first Christmas w/out my grandfather ) I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.
