The finding indicates the disorder may be more than just a chemical imbalance, they added. In another study, Ashtari found the brain irregularities diminished in children who had been medicated with stimulant drugs for an average of 2 1/2 years. "The findings ... indicate that the therapeutic effect of stimulants may involve a brain normalization process," said co-researcher Sanjiv Kumra, a psychiatrist at Zucker Hillside Hospital in Glen Oaks, New York.

Stone Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 My son didn't have ADHD before his stroke, but he was tested years later and docs said he has it..... I have always thought it was related.
moimeme Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 The reason people first suspected that AD/HD was an actual ailment was that people who had suffered frontal lobe damage in accidents started to present the same symptoms that are seen in people we now know have AD/HD. Interesting about the patients improving after treatment. I'd read another study to that effect, but didn't stick it in my links because it was the only one I saw. It would be great if the meds actually do help the brain reprogram itself!
