Thinkalot
Hi everyone. Just wanted to share, for those of you who may also suffer obsessive thinking (OCD) that it can get better, and easier to manage in time, and that medication can help. It does not however, entirely dissapear, and if you go off meds, as I have now done, you'll be aware again of nagging thoughts spinning around in your head. But if you also get some CBT it can help teach techniques on how to manage it successfully, and minimise the intrusion on your life. It may also be, as I have learnt, that you can direct all that thinking and energy into positive activities, such as sport, or creative pursuits. It minimises negative obsessive thinking, and actually can be a really positive thing. One thing which continually surprises me, is how it can go in waves. Sometimes a bad day just sneaks up and hits you. The thoughts won't stop spinning. The temptation to ask my fiance questions about his past (as is the problem in my case) becomes overwhelming once more. The old sick feeling in the pit of my stomach returns. I can't sleep properly. It's like being a prisoner of my thoughts. But then, if I manage to sit back and get through it, without feeding the obsession too much, it passes, and the cage of thoughts dissapears again. Freedom returns. To anyone who does not know what it's like to live with obsessive thinking, maybe that gives some small insight. And to those of you who are...it can get better, with CBT and /or meds. Just be prepared for the odd bad day, and once you've learnt to manage it, or have extra seratonin thanks to meds, most of the time life will feel so much freer than it did before. I have just come through a couple of bad days. I suppose that made me feel like sharing, because so often people just don't understand how it can be...or those with OCD can feel down about it, and need some encouragement that things do ease. whichwayisup
I agree with you too, CBT will help so much. I suffer from anxiety attacks and am currently doing CBT. I have done this without meds...It's hard some days but hey I just suffer through a bad day and just accept it as just that! Tomorrow is always a better day. Good positive thoughts and good enery really does help. Writing thoughts down lifts the weight from my shoulders... Yoga and deep breathing. Things good for body, mind and soul! Author Thinkalot
Yes, you are right. Staying positive goes along way. If I dwell on the thoughts, they get worse...or if I get down because I am HAVING the thoughts, that also doesn't help. I'm glad you are doing well!
