Fit and gorgeous at 50!!!

I am faaaar from 50, but always looking for ways to maintain youth and health easily as I tend to be a bit lazy. I ran across this video and surprised by this man's claim he looks this way at 50 by using weights 5-6 minutes a day! Amazing!!!

According to the video you do not. Apparently this has been his routine for 35 years He does say his philosophy is that you do not need to spend so much time weight training to achieve a good body. His body seems perfect to me without overly bulky muscles. He says till failure.

 

I am not into weight training but would like to start as my neighbor's 72 year old mother looks 52 and she said weight training made her look young. My father also has amazingly youthful looks, but i always thought it was because he made a deal with the devil:) not his weight training.

 

You seem to have a lot more experience than I do with training. Perhaps you can ask him how 5 minutes a day can make you look like this. It looks too good to be true but it may actually work for him.

Well,whatever he is doing,he is doi.g well.I have yet to see a 50 year old in real life with that sort of body and slim waist.He is slender yet muscular which is very attractive to me.

I agree.

 

It has never taken me much effort to stay slim and fit. I'm old - and my body is younger looking than most 25 year olds I see.

 

I'm no slouch, though - but muscle tone comes easily.

I think if most people took the approach of staying youthful,positive ,working out and healthy eating as we age,aging would not be feared. Proof we can get better as we age.

My beef with this guy is that he is, from what I gathered, promoting the idea that 5 minutes of isolation training per day is all that is needed to look like him.

 

Even assuming that he "lifts" 7 days per week, it's hard to fathom how he'd be able to effectively train his entire body with isolation, machine-type movements using such a low amount of volume and relative intensity. Notice how he wears long pants in both of his videos. My guess is that he doesn't train legs...

 

Furthermore, even if this guy's "system" works for him, are we really getting the whole picture? What is his diet like? Does he utilize cosmetic surgery, such as liposuction or abdominal etching? What sort of drugs, if any, does he use? His presentation is gimmick-y and paints an incomplete picture.

 

Of course, this is all just, like, my opinion, man. I just think that most people would end up frustrated and disappointed with their lack of results from such a training philosophy.

It doesn't take much time, and it takes self-discipline. It also takes a good diet.

 

I am the weight I was at 25, and I am almost 50. Someone once told me recently that I have the body of a much younger man (as opposed to the face of an older man? :eek::laugh:)

 

It is not impossible and there are many around. But sadly, there are way too many men who look pregnant and women who also struggle with weight....mostly because no one seems to want to watch what they eat.

 

I am going to check out that video when I get a chance. It may help me out personally. Thank you. :)

Although I don't use his specific methods, it is possible to build that physique with little volume. Read the Adding Muscle chapter in Tim Ferriss' 4-Hour Body. Essentially, it's going one set-to-failure with a few select compound exercises - free weight or machine, your choice - and adding more recovery time as you progress. To keep in shape, I work out twice a week for 30 minutes per session. Quite a bit of that time is waiting between exercises. If one were to do one exercise for 5 minutes, 7 days a week, technically, someone could theoretically achieve the same results.

Perhaps. I would venture that doing 4 sets of squats to failure, or 4 sets of pull ups to failure, etc. - i.e. compound movements - may be able to produce some results. Sticking to isolation movements only though? I remain skeptical.

My neighbors 72 year old mother looks way younger because of weights. My father has always looked very young(I thought it was cause he made a deal with the devil: and I remember he would work out at home for a short while(10 minutes a most) with these huge barbells and a bench. Nothing else. He also ate lots of nuts,chicken,fish,no read meat and fruits galore. I don't think I ever saw my father ever eat a piece of cake. He hated sweets. But it all worked.

 

I don't see why so many people are doubtful of this 5 minute routine.. Of course his diet is probably rigid. But he is not talking about diet. He is talking about working out.

 

I used to date a huge guy who was 6'4" and had probably the best body ever. He was a slightly leaner build. Like Dwayne Johnson used to look before he got extra bulky. He also had a quick workout. But he said it was because he bulks up easily.

A LOT of what happens with people in terms of physique and appearance is dictated by genetics...Some people gain easily, others dont.

Yep. And 'using proper form' and going 'until failure' aren't exactly congruent. When he gets to the point of failure, his form looks pretty jacked up to me.

I have no idea about form. But I have to say whatever this man is doing seems to work well. He has a great chest, a tight small waist and great arms. yet still lean and not bulky.

 

I would never tell a Victoria's Secret or Playboy model her workout is off if the final result is near perfection. Unless of course I looked better, which I do. ........only kidding!:laugh:
