turnerik
Basically I know I am about to be fired. In the internet history there is a email titled security staff changes and another stating letter of removal with my name in it. I made some mistakes over the past month and a half, but nothing to major. 1) I screwed up the newspapers for a few residents where I live. 2) I forgot to put the alarm system out of bypass mode on the day they were going to run a bunch of tests on it, and if the other guard had not caught it, the building would have had to been evacuated. 3) I waited an hour and a half before calling the person who was late and wondered where he was. My boss said I should have called 10 minutes after he was late. Background: I work third shift "security" at a high rise condominium for the rich of the rich. I got the job basically because my dad worked here before he got a promotion and I was with the same security company, so they interviewed me, and I got it. The first couple of months I was basically flawless. Everything was done right, and I had little to no mistakes. Then in August I for some reason started slipping in my performance with the papers. It may not seem like a big deal, and honestly I don't feel it is, but my boss came in after me, and if I made a mistake, he heard about it. I just feel horrible that I'm either going to be let go, or HOPEFULLY just transferred. I'm 20 years old, and I love this job. I make good enough money (12.50) an hour and full time to be able to live on my own, but I fear any less money and I won't be able to survive. I really don't want to start eating into my savings. I just don't know what to do. I have a 3 day weekend after this morning, and I think I'm going to be fired when my boss gets here at 6AM. I'm not a hot-head, so I'm not going to do anything stupid. I guess I need advice on what to do when I'm fired, and how i can survive. I have no money saved, but I have a couple grand in the stock market I could survive on if needed, don't really want to take it out.
D-Lish
You know what? Own your mistakes- tell your boss you haven't been focused and ask for a second chance. Tell your boss you are willing to do what it takes to get crap back in order. If this is a job you like, fight for it a bit. If your boss hands back the job to you- don't screw up or take anything for granted. Even if you feel really horrible- fake it until you make it.
jimloveslips
Yeah what D-Lish said, you gotta be proactive here, step up before they squash you, you won't have a chance once the notice goes out, they hate to backtrack, but an upfront employee that knows their mistakes and knows how to fix it could be an asset they'd like to keep on...
