this is good...

you will notice that you will lose a few lbs then stay at same wieht for a while then maybe even gain a lb or two. then you'll lose a bunch more...etc etc....

as long as the trend is downward that is what you want to look at. don't worry if you stay at same weight for 5 or 6 days straignt or even gain a bit. look at big picture

after my divorce i lost about 30 lbs but it took me a year and i lost it very gradually and that is why i've kept it off.

no matter what anyone tells you the key to losing wieght and keeping it off FOREVER is to eat a bit less everyday and exercise regularly for rest of yer life.

I lost about 17-20 lbs a year and a half ago and have kept it off by changing my eating habits completely. Even with the extra 20, my BMI was perfect and I was well within the guidelines for my height. I'm not anorexic or too thin now by any means - still well within the limits for me but my clothes all fit again and I feel much better.

Diets don't work; changing lifestyle does. I simply refuse to buy or keep around the house any food that has a lot of calories relative to its value in filling me up.

I still eat treats, but rather than a whole chocolate bar at a time, I'll eat a couple of pieces a day and take a few days to finish it. I don't eat much meat - maybe a slice of lunch-style ham or turkey in my sandwich. I quit going to fast-food places long ago and do so only once in a long while as a treat. I don't think I've had a burger or fries since September and before that I believe it was June. I like them when I have them, but I don't need or crave them.

I don't eat many fried things; if I fry eggs (again, very rarely), I do it in a tiny amount of non-hydrogenated marg. Any other sauteing gets done with a bit of olive oil in a non-stick pan. I've got a set of 'quickie' light recipes which are easy to do on nights when I'm real hungry and I keep a few 300 cal. or less frozen dinners around in case I'm starved or in a big rush.

I just about never drink pop; milk's my beverage of choice though recently I've found a couple of herb teas which are great and I do like honey lemon ginseng green tea. And I exercise; I walk 40 minutes home from work most days and another 13 to the bus stop in good weather.

I'm still not as good as I ought to be at getting the right number of servings of fruit and veg a day, but I seem to be doing OK in terms of my health. So far, everybody in my office has gotten colds - a couple got quite bad ones - but me. And I'm still working on improving my eating style - a couple changes at a time. For instance, now I only eat whole-grain breads and I can't stand white bread anymore. I've made the changes gradually and they've become part of my life. I don't miss the other stuff I used to eat in the least. I can't even stand eating potato chips anymore - a few and then I'm greased (and grossed) out. But you have to stay away from things like that long enough that they lose their appeal.

You can try living on one set of foods for a while, but most folks find that backfires on them when they get sick of the restrictions. Keep looking for healthy low-cal food that you enjoy eating - then changing your life isn't painful, rather it becomes very enjoyable.

I'm part of the changing lifestyle group too.

My diet use to consist of cheeseburgers, pizzas, crisps and chocolate. Now i find myself eating a meat / salad sandwich for lunch and snacking on fruit instead of chocolate and pizza. I've also been drinking water more than anything else though I still treat myself every once in a while to a bit of pizza or maybe some fast food but thats generally once every 2 weeks.

I lost around 22lbs in the space of a few months but I was at the gym 4 times a week doing a workout as well as the eating changes and its leveled off at my current weight.

I am also losing weight..I just work out every day for about an hour on treadmill and weights in gym usually in the evening.

I had to lose some because i gained weight in my past relationship where we would eat late at night... We would get wings, pizza, drive thru....you name it. Then on Friday nights our dinner would be around 10 pm or sometimes later...because thats when his sports or leagues would be over and we could actually get out together.

BAD BAD BAD HABITS. He never gained weight because he was always active.....but I did.

Thats all over now and I am now on the right track again with eating right and working out!! Feeling and looking good. :)
