How do you spend time with your spouse over the weekend?

Recommended Posts

This is a silly question, but what do all of you do on the weekend? This is usually the only time my husband and I have to catch up as we work alternate schedules during the week. Lately, I've been feeling depressed because I feel like we do nothing over the weekend or that there is nothing to do. We have such limited time together, I feel like it's being wasted. It doesn't help that my husband doesn't always suggest something.

We always try and have a day out somewhere over the weekend. If we can't do that then we will make sure we go out one night or take turns to cook a nice dinner.

As for places to go, we actually do a list now and then of things we could do no matter how daft they may sound. This helps for those times when you are just so tired from work etc so you don't have to push hard for ideas when yoh are too stressed from work.

Due to shift rotation we can go a month with me working long hours Mon-Fri and him working weekends. If we have a day though, it could include:

Laying in bed together reading, movie marathon with homemade snacks, 10 mile walk with the dog, shopping for house things, cooking together, visiting friends/family, cinema, museum, exhibition, DIY, eating out, picnic. All sorts of things. Whatever we do I will have a great time so it kinda doesn't matter :)

Since movies and entertainment are so easily available at home, we always try to get out do something that involves exercise. Tennis, bike ride to a lunch destination, hike, etc. We bought a book of 50 Local Hikes, trying to check them off one by one...

Oh wow, I would love that book. We're always looking for somewhere new to hike each weekend!

Home girl! I remember when the most notable thing about Kemah was the big pink brothel.

LOL. Texas version of Mexico's 'boys town'. What were you doing there?:p

Another thing we used to do is a day-long tour of the haunted areas of the city. There wre weekend trips too. San Antonio has some unique haunted spots including a hotel. Sometimes we'd go to old cemeteries and read gravestones. That can be fascinating.

Or just a Grey Line tour of your city. As long as were together were good.

We always find some event to do at least one day every weekend. There is a company in major cities called Goldstar that has deeply discounted tickets to plays, concerts, and other events.

Also our symphony has these $15 tickets where you are seated behind the orchestra - looking at the conductor - which proves to be far more interesting. I find us Farmers Markets, British car shows, museum exhibitions, and we use an iPhone app called AltTrails for cool hiking trails.

This weekend, however, we are flying from San Francisco to Los Angeles (24 hours only) to see the Philip Glass opera, Einstein on the Beach which is a splurge, but a rare event to see a seminal piece of avant garde theater.
