Santa Claus

Recommended Posts

At school my 7 years old daughter was told that there is no Santa Claus. What you tell kids when they come with the question: Is Santa Claus real?

I have always told my kid that Santa is very real - but... is more of an idea - the 'spirit of gift giving' rather than an actual man that came down the chimney. When she gets gifts from Santa, they are gifts inspired by the 'spirit of gift giving' - given in Santa's name.

She started asking when she was old enough to see that there was no chimney in our house - probably around 3 or 4. She wanted to know how he would get in, and that's when we talked to her about it.

We always tell the kids when they ask that "if you believe, you will recieve"....my soon to be step-daughter asked a couple of weeks ago, she's 6.

It is not a school's position to refute or substantiate the existence of Mr. Claus.

My two older kids know the truth, but when I was always asked, I said "I Have heard that Santa was not real ALL my life and I know my parents had heard that as well. I do not know for sure, but I do know that every year, I receive presents and it is a magical time of the year." Sort of the you believe you will receive deal.

So my oldest (13) when I went to talk to him (about not screwing it up for his younger sisters) put his hand up and said "Dad, I don't want to know."

....I'm just afraid my kids are going to wonder why I didn't get them anything for Christmas?! Do you even think they'll notice? :o All our gifts are from SC.

We always exchange some gifts---this is from Dad this if from your sister, etc. THe lions share is from SC. But then I figure when they are old enough to know, we can migrate away from the SC. But untl the youngest is no longer a believer, there will be SC presents

Thank you for replying. I did tell her it is real only if you believe in it. She had lots of other questions like how he will get into our apartment as we don’t have chimney. I thought I did answer all questions but noticed her checking my shopping bags. Also the child in her class told that dad is bringing all gifts. So she told she is going to write a letter to Santa and one to dad (her step dad, my husband). And she is going to leave some chocolate milk for him and carrots for reindeer.

Did you try to “catch” your parents as child? I did when I was 8 and my Mom said she met Santa on her way. :o
