IhavenoFREAKINclue
What are the procedures in an abortion. Do they have to do tests first or do they just go right in and suck it out. I'm not starting this thread for people to go "This is bad" "You're a sinner" I'm not looking for preachers. I was just wondering if they have to do tests before the perform it. morrigan
http://www.plannedparenthood.org/ABORTION/Default.htm http://americanwomensservices.com/pages/abortion_services.html Hope this helps. Both sites discuss the surgical and non surgical procedures, and examinations you will have to go through first. Also, it's a good idea to do an internet check on your state's abortion laws--some have mandatory 24 hour waiting periods before the actual procedure can occur.
Leikela
They will do an ultrasound to see the exact location of the fetus. Then they interview you to make sure you're in the right frame of mind to go through with the procedure. Then they will arrange a date for the procedure to take place. It's not like you walk in there and bam, they do the procedure.

Debster
If you are planning on having an abortion, I urge you to at least have one confidant that you can turn too to talk things through. As well, you will need someone to help you get home and make sure you are ok. It is a very traumatic thing to go through - physically and emotionally and you'll need someone there. Do you even know how pregnant the post might be? No, you don't. Did you know that the heart starts to beat at 21 days? You call something living, that has a heartbeat, an "it"? Calm down. Not that it's relevant, but sex is determined by the presence of a Y chromosome, so by the time you're aborting one, he or she will certainly have a sex.
blue636
I'm not going to go into ethics, though it's difficult to resist. Just make sure you are 100% certain that you are prepared to handle the consequences of choosing either option. I believe that the procedure is dependent upon the age of the fetus. If it's just a few weeks, say 3-4 then it shouldn't take too long. I believe that once the baby is older then the surgery becomes more complicated. They have to surgically dissect the baby into pieces which are suitable for removal.

All fetuses are outwardly female until hormones kick in. There is a hormonal sex, as well as a chromosomal sex, and the two do not always align either!
savethedrama4allama
Anyway, you would receive an ultrasound and see a counselor. If you decided that abortion was the right choice, they'd schedule you. When you came in they'd give you some pills- something that relaxes you. Then they'll take you into a room, put your feet in major stirrups, and begin the procedure. They give you a shot of Novocain in your cervix, and then enlarge your cervix bit by bit with a tool- literally stretching it out. This is the most uncomfortable part. Once the opening of the cervix is made large enough, the fetus and lining of the uterus is removed by suction. They usually keep you in a recovery room for a few hours to check on your loss of blood. You will have a heavy period for a few days afterwards.

Stone
I had a consultation yesterday, It depends on how many weeks you are if you are under 7 weeks there is a pill available that will make you miscarry. I am going thru this right now as well, and all I can say is nobody can judge unless they have been placed in the situation themselves, I haven't made up my mind yet, but it is one of the hardest times of my life, Please talk to somebody bias before you decide, I have been reaching out for days and can't find a comfort zone. Leikela
indigo_moon, Sometimes stuff comes about unexpectedly even if you do use birth control. Also, the world isn't a perfect place. We all have faults and do things we might later regret. It's easy to say "If people would just keep their pants on" but let's be realistic, that obviously doesn't happen. People F-up all the time. It's called reality. Your views are your own. That's your opinion and you're free to express it but putting people down for their own personal choices is crossing the line a bit. God is the only judge. But then again, that's my opinion and I'm expressing that too.

Even a mother who wants to keep her baby refers to IT as an IT until she knows what IT is. I did. I didn't refer to my kids at "the zygote", "the embryo", or "the fetus". I would say, "I'm pregnant. I don't know what IT is." My advise....if you have ANY doubt as to this being what you really want, research all sides of the issue, have a non-biased confidant, and then choose. Not every woman who choses an abortion makes a rash on the spot decision. They have usually agonized about it, and often agonize about it alone. Take care hun.
