mer
Hello guys! First of all, sorry for misspellings an or collocation errors, I'm using spell check, but we never know! I'm reading this forum for a couple of days now and I'm really enjoying the pieces of advice that everybody here gives people struggling with personal issues. My issue is not as important as most of the issues that I read here, but is (for me at least) an self improvement that I have to do and since most of you guys write very good English, after some hours trying to have the courage to register here, I ended up doing it and now I'm writing my "problem". I am 25 years old, and since I was a child I've always loved the idea of living abroad, to be able to achieve this dream, I need to improve my English (that I learned by myself, listening to music, watching TV, etc....) to try to get an certification. I can read and listen without effort, I try to speak to myself (since I have no one that speak English around me) for at least 1 hour a day to improve my speaking, and I am writing here to get advice and to force myself to write, thus improve my English. This said, I would like to know if I can try to give advice (being careful with my English) to people in this forum, since, even living in another country, I believe I can help people here while helping myself (improving my English), and I would like to know if I should put something in the beginning of all my replies, after all, maybe I can put some word in the wrong place and be less polite than I would like to. Besides that, I would love if someone point my mistakes while writing (if possible not only on this post), I'm pretty sure that I did some simple mistake on this post. I'm sorry if I took this forum idea incorrectly, I believe that this forum is more focused on emotional issues, if I'm in the wrong place and someone can point me where to go, I would be glad. I just posted here because for me, this is a extremely important step on my life, and it's the main goal in my life right now, that involves my everyday mood!
PogoStick
You are free to give advice in English, that is what Loveshack is about. You have some simple mistakes but are mostly understandable. Also, there are people here from many countries so you are not alone. So where are you from? Male or female? I'm 35, male from USA.
Outsider77
Your English is good enough that the meaning is understood. Most of your mistakes are grammatical errors. I would suggest that you pick up a book of English grammar to learn more. Something that has specific exercises or a workbook in it would be really helpful. th If you're worried about other people being upset because your English is not perfect, you could always write that English is not your first language in your posts. FitChick
There are plenty of native English speakers on these forums who cannot construct a simple sentence, so don't worry about it. The best way to learn English is to read the classics. I just found this website where it looks like entire novels are online. I may start reading the ones I've missed over the years.
