DrumTechnique
Hello, Im 15 years old 5'11 190lbs. I used to be as small as a chicken (being prematurely born). But that all chnaged when i hit middle school. I got chubbier and been like this ever since. For some reason i never seem to lose weight. I played soccer, rode my bike everyday, and not to mention running a mile in gym everyday. But i stayed the same chubby kid. I have a big chest and big arms i have muscle i can feel underneath my fat. But i have all excess fat covering my muscle. I dont know how to get rid of it. I can run a mile nonstop ang get under nine minutes, and im a catii i walk 6 miles with two 15 pound bags on my back. But i still stay the same chubby kid I started my own workout I have been doing for a week. It consists of jogging in place for 14 minutes push ups and crunches until i cant do anymore, benching 80lbs 3 sets of 12, and just some stretches. I dont know if this is going to work... I just need some advice And iv also cut what i eat in half... Im eating a small bowl of cereal in the morning having a bottle of water for lunch and having one plate for dinner (normally 2). Can anyone tell me if what im doing will work... and could i please get some suggestions? Im to embarrased to talk about it with anyone i know personally (friends, family etc...) niko1999
I can tell you starving yourself WONT work, it will make things worse in the end. Youre 15, youre not done growing, and developing. Crype, you havent even finsished puberty yet. I highly doubt, at 5'11, and 190, being able to run like you do, and carry weights like you do, taht you need to lose weight. My advice to you? From someone with a bad body image themselves? And this is a lot easier said then done, look in the mirror, and dont pick apart yourself, see yourself as a whole. Ive never seen you, obviously, but Im willing to bet that everything if fine with the way you look. And please PLEASE! Eat when youre hungry dont deprive yourself. The water is GREAT for you, and, it wil lhelp you lose/maintain weight, but you also need to eat more than twice a day, becuase what your body does, it starts to store what youre eating, and storing it to FAT, so when you start regular eating habits again, it messes you all up. And it can mess up your metaboslism. Also, do you like milk? GReat, drink plenty of it, not only is calcium helpfull with weight, It wil aid in your still growing bones. So please, stop the eating habbits before it gets too far off, eat when you get hungry, drink plenty ofmilk and water. Youre body tells you its hungry for a reason.
blue636
Don't eat like that. Eat very small meals frequently, every 3 hours or so. You're not helping your metabolism by skipping meals, that's for sure. How long have you been eating like this? It takes MONTHS to shed fat and to keep it off, but it also takes a very strict diet and discipline. Also, your training frequency is important. If you can run a mile in 9 minutes, that's great I guess, but if you do it once a week it's not going to do a thing for weight loss. Post more info, I'll get back to you later when I'm not tired. Author DrumTechnique
Yea i know it sounds odd that someone weighing 190 and 5'11 can run like that... but im not being sorcastic at all, im active everyday and never seem to lose weight... im bigger then my brother and hes 19 6ft 180lbs. I dont know why Im so big... im sure its not gentetics because my father and mother both were normal size and fitt when they were young. I have been feeling like a tighting in my chest muscles the next day after lifting and they sort of hurt when i push on them... is this a good sign or a bad sign. And how i do know the crunches/sit-ups/and bicycles that im doing are working. Are there ways to turn fat around the abdomen area into muscle or just to lose some excess fat? I would like to know more effective ways then the three i have mentioned And i cant eat very small meals every 3 hours or so bc im in school so i just usually drink a carton of milk a bottle of water and justsnack on some nuts, then when i get home ill do my workout, then eat dinner around 6:00. Then later on that night if i feel hungry ill usually just grab a glass of milk then head off to bed. Every day sametime i have been getting bad stomach pains is this due to a drastic change in eating habits?
MrE
well you never know.Ive known kids a few inches shorter than you that weighed in 10 to 40 pounds more that shot up in height & lost the weight when their growth cycle was over. My thoughts.Dont even worry about it.Its pretty much cosmetic. You have mroe improtant things to worry about with your schooling.Just keep a proper workout regimen eat healthy & the everynow & then treat & you'll be fine.Trust me.You may not want to hear it but you being 15 still accounts for your insecurity. Its still a time where you social perspectives are growing & you dont want to have these types of insecurities manifesting now cause it may worsen your mindset when you get into your 20's. Stone
Cut out salt, eat 6 (SMALL) meals a day, continue to work out, and only drink water lots of it. If this doesn't work spring for a personal trainer but they will tell you the same thing. 5'11 at 190 your not that overweight you prabably only need to lose 30-40 pounds

Id say 30 pounds max & thats at the line. You dont want to be a twig.I think an ideal weight for you may be in the upper 160's to lower 170's. For the upper body maybe what you should do is get a couple 5 pound barbells & use those for a cardio/boxing like work out.3 minute intervals with equal swingings of each arm.Itll work out the majority of muscles in your mid section & upper body.Do it maybe 3 4 or 5 times with in the work out session. Maybe you would want to start lighter with half the weight.
kerri
I was the exact same height and close to the same weight at your age...you have nothing to worry about....when I hit about 16 1/2 I slimmed backed down, not because I changed things just because my puberty fat finally left....so be healthy and chill out! It will all work itself out.....but one thing is for sure...DO NOT diet at your age, if you want eat healthy but DON'T diet!
Author DrumTechnique
I hope your right... cause im sick of bein overweight... im jus guna continue lifting, doing crunches, push-ups, sit-ups and jogging. Is this enough? 45 sit-ups 40 crunches 30 push ups (or as many as i could do) jogging in place 14 mins ( for 7 mintues i bring my knees up as high as i can, then the other 7 i bring my heels up to my butt)
Sukotto
190lbs? Thats not that overweight, you shouldn't be trying to lose weight at all in my opnion. You've probably still got another few inches to grow in the next few years. I was 175-180lbs until I hit 18-19 then my weight just gradually reduced on its own. I'm now 150lbs and a bit on the skinny side and i'm busy trying to put some weight on, been drinking my Myoplex whey protein shakes and working out at the gym 3 times a week for about an hour at a time. Starving yourself won't do any good, you most likely just need to adjust your diet and results will be seen over months rather than a week. You'll need to make permanent changes to your eating habbits, mine use to consist of fast food but has been replaced by more healthier alternatives. When i *have* to eat fast food because I have no other choice then its usually a grilled chicken sandwich and a drink, no fries. I have a meat and salad roll instead of burgers etc. I found that diet is more or less half the fight. Benchpressing 80lbs, that impressive. I was impressed at my ability to do 45kg. If you can go join a gym, they'll usually allocate you a personal trainer for the first month to build an exercise program for you and they can also give you tips about food. blue636
Shoot for losing 1 pound of bodyfat per week. It's a realistic and healthy goal, any more and you will be doing harm. Remember, once you get the weight off you need to renew your eating and exercise habits to keep the weight off.
RottenGazebo
Yes, 190 is overweight. On the BMI scale this is equal to 26.5 with 25.0 - 29.0 being overweight and 30.0 being obese. You should pick up a bodybuilding book. I know you want to lose mass, not gain it so don't worry about all the weight routines. Just use the cardio, nutrition, warm ups, and stretching sections. Lifting weights will not make you lose weight, it will make your muscles grow and muscle weighs more than fat. Someone said drink only water. No, drink a lot of milk also.
